European Club Championships: Valeria Sorokina, Nina Vislova help Primorye club to land on podium
Women’s Doubles experts Valeria Sorokina and Nina Vislova surpassed Nadiezda Zieba-Britta Andersen and helped Primorye badminton club to raise the trophy in the European Club Championships on June 2, 2012.
World Number 21 pair stamped their supremacy over low ranked rivals by registering 21-18, 17-21 and 21-18 scores on board.
This 53-minute contest was first Women’s Doubles tie of final match between Team Skælskør-Slagelse and Primorye badminton club.
Russians employed unbeatable skills in the opening and last game of the match and did not allow their opponents to rise from the dust.
In first set, Valeria Sorokina-Nina Vislova unleashed hard to learn tactics and outclassed the opposing shuttlers technically and tactically.
They were little sluggish in the start as Nadiezda and Britta remained couple of steps ahead in the race but they gathered speed and caught their rivals way before the half time.
They first recovered from the deficit and then established a decent advantage by reaching at 11 until one-minute break.
Later part of the game saw both contenders putting extra effort to secure first match point but none of them could manage a decent lead.
However, Valeria and Nina struck hard in final moments and stamped their competitors with favourable margin of 21-18.
In next game, they entered in court with high shoulders but they could not make best out of their fist set win.
Nadiezda and Britta, who belong to Poland and Denmark respectively, forged a fruitful chemistry and bounced back in second set with a staggering performance.
The twosome showed strong character against higher ranked rivals and stood tall against their intensive invasion.
This time they counterbalance the situation immediately and launched a brisk attack. Their coordination was superb in opening rallies as they did not show any sign of confusion.
Though, they were just few steps ahead in total of 11 points but it boosted their confidence which they utilised in later part of the game.
After the interval, they lost grip over match when their opponents Valeria and Nina stepped forward with some back-to-back points.
Nadiezda and Britta did not lose nerves and showed great verve to wrap the show with a comfortable margin of 21-17.
The decider became crucial after this revised match status and both pairs made the crowd gasp with their mesmerising performance.
None of them could gain a permanent edge and chased each other in score position. It was a tense atmosphere as match kept swinging between them until game point situation.
This cliff-hanging tussle ended when the Russian couple Valeria-Nina earned the right to raise hands as champion with decisive figure of 21-18.
Their win proved turning point of the match as Team Skælskør-Slagelse never came back from this deficit and faced a 4-2 defeat.
