For school we have to bring in some food from our heritage. I am German, Irish, french canadian, and engish.I have to bring in food for 20-23 serving. What would be easy to cook and many people would like. I am in 7th grade so most of the kids are 12-13.

  1. Some sausages with sauerkraut . . . just grill or brown the sausage.  Put  k***t into crock pot of electric skillet, put the pieces of sausage on top, and turn the thing on low when you get to school.  Let it warm until lunch.  Serve with brown mustard.  German.

Or make sausage rolls - Brit thing.  Yummy sausage wrapped in pastry and baked.

French/Canadian - POUTINE!  French fries coverd in brown gravy, topped with cheese curds - no suitable.  Too bad.

  2. irish soda bread with jam or butter

    barm brack

  3. Two ideas:

1). Saurkraut is not authentic German.  It is German-American.  Germans do eat cooked cabbage, just not cooked, fermented cabbage.

A good and easy authentic German dish is Schnitzel (pronounced Sh-nit-zel).

Start with a very lean piece of pork (center cut, boneless, chops are great.  Pound it until it is about 1/4 inch thick (place it between two pieces of plastic wrap and hit it with a rolling pin or the flat side of a meat mallet). Dip it in an egg wash (one to two eggs beaten in an equal amount of water). Dredge it in crumbs (crushed Club crackers works well for this).  Season lightly with salt and pepper.  Saute it in melted butter over low heat.  When it is lightly browned outside, it is done.  Serve it with a lemon wedge.  Doesn't get much more German than that.  If you don't want to use the lemon, just use ketchup, or mayo.

2). Pasties is very English (Welsh actually, but last I knew Wales is on the English Island.  They're very easy and feed a lot of people.  Here's a recipe:
