European Mixed Team Championships: Marc Zwiebler topples Pablo Abian in Group 2 contest
Germany’s Marc Zwiebler continued his elevate play in Group 2 and remained successful in thrashing Spain’s top shuttler Pablo Abian in Men’s Singles clash at European Mixed Team Championships 2013 on Thursday, February 14, in Russia.
The in-form Zwiebler, who has been showing his determination and skill for the last one year at international stage, played with remarkable precision and remained successful in winding up this Men’s Singles clash in just 34 minutes.
German shuttler had to work hard in the opening game but he did not face even a meagre resistance in the following set from his Spanish challenger and won the match in two games with a remarkable 21-18 and 21-11 score on the board.
Abian, on the other hand, put up strong show of attacking badminton in the opening game but lost his focus in ending points. He failed to find a good flow in the second game and eventually went down against the in-form Zwiebler without winning any set.
Zwiebler showed an amazing aggression in the arena from the initial rallies of first set by creating a huge pressure on his Spanish rival.
However, Abian also showed wonderful speed and played attacking badminton that helped him to progress equally in the opening half.
Both shuttler were aggressive in the arena showing no mercy to each other at any stage and remained close on the board until the end of first part of opening game.
After the break, the game progressed in the similar fashion as both men put up strong show of top class badminton. However, it was the German shuttler who controlled the affairs at this crucial stage and took the game with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
It was a completely different situation in the following set when Zwiebler played to his maximum potential. He did not show any respect to his Spanish rival all the way and took a staggering lead until the break.
After the interval, the lofty Zwiebler continued his smooth sailing without facing any resistance from his challenger and grabbed the set with a huge 21-11 total on the score board.
