The Olympic Qualification process for European men’s teams is scheduled to start tomorrow, Saturday, August 13. The city of Holte in Copenhagen will serve as the host of the matches. According to the plan of the Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV),
teams from Georgia and Denmark will be featured in the pre-elimination stage and they will play two matches over the weekend.
The first match will test their spike and block capabilities on Saturday, while the other match will take place on Sunday. The pre-elimination stage is just a kick-off of the upcoming long series of matches, which will be opened in the last week of this
month. The next stage of the tournament is the Elimination Round and it will determine the deserving European participants for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
A total of 12 teams from the European continent will be vying for the qualification in the next round. Teams from Spain, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greece, Romania, the Netherlands, Israel, Ukraine, Hungary, Latvia, Monte Negro, and Former Y.R. of Macedonia have
already secured spots in the Elimination Round. All these aspiring teams went through the same process as Denmark and Georgia compete for one empty slot in the elimination round.
Denmark has a young team, which desires to win the qualification for the next round. In recent times, they have spent enough effort in extensive training and practices for the pre-qualification stage of the tournament. On the other hand, Georgia is also
up for the challenge. They have mix bag of young and experienced players. They will also be equipped with good tips and tricks of the game. In order to advance to the next stage, they need to finish the pre-stage with final score of 2-0. The same holds true
for Denmark. In the case of ties, a golden set will be played that will decide on the most deserving team.
The Qualification process is supposed to be continued until next May, when the grid of qualifiers will be completed. The 2012 London Olympics will start next July but the roster of the teams will be finalised before-hand.
