European Tour: Retief Goosen and Darren Clarke to tee off in Abu Dhabi

South African sensation Retief Goosen and two-time World Golf Champion Darren Clarke will tee off at Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi for the Emirates Airline Invitational.
The contention was confirmed on Thursday morning in a press conference in Dubai. Abdullah Al Naboodah, the host of the event addressed the press and said, “To have Retief Goosen and Darren Clarke join us for the fifth running of the Invitational is another
big boost, particularly now it has become the curtain-raiser for the four-tournament European Tour Middle East Swing. With Emirates Airline as our Title Partner, the Invitational has been raised to a new international level. It is also a huge boost to the
charities that we and the Professional Tour players support.”
Initially, the duo was not agreeing for appearance, as they were demanding a higher fee. With Emirates joining the tournament as the major sponsor, the purse jumped folds and so did the field. Goosen’s contention has made the field more powerful. He is the
fourth major winner in the field of 52 European Tour Professionals.
Goosen is one of the players on the field who will make their debut in this event. Speaking to the press, the South African said, “The Invitational has gained a big reputation as an outstanding Pro-Am and I know from what the Tour players have said it’s
going to be a lot of fun.”
Apart from the Goosen, Darren Clark, Lee Westwood, Ross Fisher, and Graeme McDowell are few of the prominent names on the desert swing. The purpose of the invitational is to promote golf in the region, which is why every year, the purse jumps folds and so
does the field.
The Emirates Airline Invitational will kick off on 17 January, 2011 in a two-man team format. There will be one professional in each team and the four-ball setup will be followed. Apart from world-renowned golfers, the tournament will feature personalities
from other sports as well. Few eye-catching names disclosed in the press briefing were England cricketers Michael Vaughan, Allan Lamb and football player Jamie Redknapp.
The star stellar field is ready to set the deserts of Abu Dhabi on fire. However, more veterans are being approached by the management, which means more news regarding the field will pour in future. For updates, stay tuned to
