European Tour embraces Terre Blanche in Southern France as one of the tour destinations in 2013
The European Tour is surely going places after recovering from the severe economic crunch for the last couple of years and has now secured a deal with the picturesque Terre Blanche, south of France.
The new agreement was finalised at a ceremony where the Tour’s Director of Property and Venue Development, David MacLaren handed over the European Tour plaque to the Directors of golf General Manager Francois Vaugoude and Jean-Marie Casella at the scenic resort.
MacLaren commented, "We were delighted last November to announce Terre Blanche as the third European Tour Destination within our network of world class golfing venues, alongside our six European Tour Courses".
The agreement will go a long way in establishing the sport in the Mediterranean country, where several sprawling courses have shot up in the past years.
Le Golf National, the Ryder Cup destination in 2018, is one of the phenomenal achievements French Golf has clinched amid tough European competitors.
Director of Golf Casella added, "We offer a typical Provence experience with our five-star hotel facilities, which are second to none and perfectly complement the two challenging and varied golf courses".
The Director further continued, "There is plenty to do on site with the Spa, Kids’ Club and Golf Academy, all just a short drive from Cannes on the Cote d’Azur".
Casella further added that the club offers exciting features with its luxurious five star hotel and top-notch club facilities.
The club also has an in-built Spa, Kids’ Club and Golf Academy, a mere few miles from Cannes on the Cote d’Azur.
Terre Blanche is also the host of the French national amateur squad and Casella hoped that one of the distinguished players will hopefully make it to the Ryder Cup European team squad in 2018.
The European Tour has already taken a behemoth flying start with its season-opening events in South Africa and Middle East.
The tour operates in more than 25 countries around the world and its recent expansion has given an altogether new impetus for the young golfers to aspire for professional status.
The European Tour lost many of the lucrative sponsorship deals last year when no fewer than two of its mainstream events were left lurking in darkness.
This happened as the sponsors decided to pull out of their contracts. Irish Open and Scottish Open suffered due to lack of funds.
The European Tour is all set to swing back in action with the WGC Cadillac Championship, scheduled on March 8, at Doral Golf Resort and Spa, Florida.
The event is co-sanctioned by the PGA and the European Tour, and will feature some of the top-ranked players in the world.
The Tour did not have an event scheduled this week, providing the much needed break to the players after a whirlwind start of the year.
The Florida event will be followed by the Open de Andalucía Costa del Sol at the scenic Aloha Golf Club, Andalucía, with a purse of a whooping €1,000,000.
