European Tour gets a boaster shot with another event on the calendar, The BMW Masters in China
BMW, in a bid to strengthen its partnership with the European Tour has now unveiled a whole new tournament on the European Tour schedule, the BMW Masters, scheduled in October this year.
The event will be third of the European Tour co-sanctioned events on the Chinese turf and the automobile manufacturing giant has come out to provide comprehensive official sponsorship of the event.
Some of the top-most officials of all the related stake holders were present at the ceremony including the Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG Dr Ian Robertson, European Tour Chief Executive George O'Grady, Zhang Xiao-ning from the CGA and s**+ Jian
and several officials of tour.
Robertson, who announced the establishment of a new event on the schedule said:
“As the name indicates, the BMW Masters will play a particularly significant role in BMW’s commitment to the sport as a ‘Global Golf Player’. The BMW Masters is another highlight in our sustainable global golf strategy. China is a key market for BMW and
golf is the ideal stage”.
O’ Grady also lauded the uninterrupted support of the BMW Group especially in times when most of the sponsors were reluctant to pitch in more support during the times of global economic vows.
BMW and European Tour partnership dates back to 1989 when the automobile manufacturer sponsored the first European Tour event, BMW International Open in Munich.
The partnership has grown stronger and broader in the coming years and the BMW now sponsors three events on the tour and has been with the tour for the last 23 years.
During this time, BMW has sponsored 45 events in all.
O’Grady said, “BMW is renowned for its commitment to innovation and exceptional standards of excellence in promoting professional golf tournaments, and the visit to Lake Malaren Golf Club in Shanghai in October will once again underline that fact.”
European Tour has managed gigantic gains in the recent years, particularly when they decided to open up to greener pastures of the likes of Middle East and Asia.
They started co-sanctioning events with the Asian Tour in order to bring lucrative Asian markets in its fold.
