European Under-19 Championship Division Two 2011, Gibraltar U-19 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Italy-c2926 U-19 – 1st Innings Recap
The 9th fixture of the European U-19 Championship Division Two 2011 was played between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibraltar-c2906 and Italy U-19 teams on July 29 at King William’s College, Castle town (neutral venue).
Gibraltar’s captain, Guy Dumas won the toss and elected to bat first. The team did not have a good start as opener Mathew Hunter got caught out at the hands of Charith Rajamanthri at a delivery by Roshendra Abeywickrama. He managed to contribute only 2 runs
at 3 balls and left the team at 2 runs after the fall of 1st wicket.
The next man in was Kayron Stagno who also failed to counter the Italian bowlers successfully and returned to pavilion after being bowled out by Alamin Mia. He added 9 runs to the team’s total which included 2 boundaries.
It was another big wicket for the Italian bowling attack who had taken 2 early wickets, putting the Gibraltar’s team under pressure. Skipper Dumas was the next man in to support the team and the top scorer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scott-A-Chipolina-c88999.
This pair also could not stand for long as Chipolina got bowled out at a beautiful delivery by Muhammad Asghar. He scored 21 runs off 48 deliveries at a strike rate of 43.75.
This dismissal was very unfortunate for the batting team and their score was also at a very low 49/3. Chipolina left and made Philip Dumas to come at the crease. Jakub Peret was the sensational bowler to send him away at duck. Peret also knocked-out the
skipper Dumas at a total of 15 runs scored at a strike rate of 31.25.
Skipper left the team at a total of 55 runs after the loss of 5 wickets. Gibraltar was in a terrible situation and needed some quick scoring partnership to save the team from a miserable defeat but things turned differently.
Wickets kept falling after regular intervals and no batsman could withstand the Italian bowlers for long.
Julian Freyone and Jeremy Perez was the two men facing the deadly bowling attack by Italian bowlers. Muhammad Asghar continued to bowl beautifully and bowled out Freyone, which was his 2nd wicket of the day.
Freyone left after contributing 5 runs to the team’s total and Simon Dumas, the batsman at number 8, replaced him. Dumas also became the victim of Asghar’s bowling and got caught out at his delivery. He managed to score only 3 runs off the 6 deliveries.
Italian bowler Abeywickrama paced up the fall of wickets for the Gibraltar’s team and knocked-out the next 2 batsmen, wicket-keeper Gomez and Karl Sene at duck. Gibraltar had lost 9 wickets so far and had scored only 77 runs.
Jeremy Perez was the last man to be dismissed who got caught out at the hands of Asghar on Mia’s delivery. This dismissal concluded the batting innings of Gibraltar U-19 team at 78 runs. The team had lost all the wickets in just 28.3 overs, setting a very
easy target for Italy to chase.
