The opening Group A match of the day came to a competitive closure after the Spanish Under-19 (U19) team secured a minor 5 runs win over the German U19 squad, on Sunday, July 21, 2011, at the Vagabond Cricket Club Ground, Braddan. For the Germans, the defeat
comes as the 3rd consecutive one on the ongoing European Under-19 Championship Division Two 2011.
The match began after Germany’s skipper Steven Richards won the toss and opted to bat first. Unlike their previous performances, the team’s openers managed to pose a whacking start, adding some impressive runs as the side’s pair, Leonard Gerhards and Ibrahim
Awan, marked their stumps on the crease.
However, the pair failed to go on, after Awan, in a mismanaged run attempt failed to reach the crease, resulting in a run out.

With captain Richards coming out to bat alongside Konrad Fuchs, the two went on with the innings through a contributing 47 runs partnership. However, the two were eventually parted after Fuchs failed to go on with the partnership.
Fuchs’ wicket came as the 3rd for the batting side, and by now, the side managed to score 84 runs.
More runs came Germany’s way, after the session was taken over by the middle order, but failing to go on, the team’s batting session finally came to a close in 28 overs at a fair total of 122, with an overall loss of 6 wickets.
As for Spain batting comeback, the youth side took off with a troubling opening, following an early loss at a minor sum of 6. However, making a swift recovery, opening batsman, Alfie Harris alongside one down player and team skipper, Joel Brook, managed
to aid the Spanish team through a notable contribution of runs.
The pair went on adding numbers to the total, but in a quick blow, both the players were returned to the pavilion, after leading the side into a total of 42.
Brook (22) came in first after being caught out by German fielder Mansor Mubarik off Gerhards delivery, followed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harris-c61739 (12), who was bowled out by youngster, Thomas Carter.
Two down batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Henry-Childs-c68031 Cook then came out to rescue the team through an aggressive piece of batting. The player went on earning runs for the team, leading the side towards the close of the target.
However, at a total of 80, the player also left for the pavilion after serving an impressive run at the pitch through a contribution of 23.
Following a couple more wickets, the Spanish finally covered up the chase, securing their eventual win worth 5 runs.
