European Under-19 Championship Division Two 2011: Gibraltar v Italy – Match Recap
On Friday, July 29, 2011, the King William’s College No 2 Ground, Castletown, brought in more impressive performances after the Italian Under-19 squad offered a notable 4 wickets defeat to the Gibraltar’s young side in the 5th Group A match of
the European Under-19 (U19) Championship Division Two 2011.
With the Gibraltar Captain, Guy Dumas, winnings the toss and opting to bat first, the session came alive with the opening batsmen Matthew Hunter and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scott-A-Chipolina-c88999, marking their stumps on the crease, only to suffer an early loss.
Offering a troubled start for the batting side, Italy’s young skipper, Roshendra Abeywickrama, secured a quick wicket for his team, after forcing Hunter (2) to make an early return.
As one down batsman, Kayron J Stagno, came in to replace Hunter, the player, alongside Chipolina went on with the procession but once again failed to retain stumps. On a mark of 19, Gibraltar lost its second player, Stagno, who left for the pavilion after
earning minor 9 runs for the team.
With the skipper now coming in to rescue his stumbling side, Dumas engaged into a reasonable partnership with opener Chipolina, earning some fair numbers for Gibraltar. However, in succession, the Italian pacers offered another destructive blow to the batting
line up, earning three swift wickets.
The manner continued after the middle and the lower Gibraltar order continued falling victim to the dominating Italian bowlers bringing a closure to a disappointing innings at an aggregate of 78, losing all its players.
As for the Italian batting response, taking on a mark of 80 runs, the side’s openers, skipper Abeywickrama and partner Abdur Bhuiyan, took to the crease but in an early instance, the team lost two swift wickets.
The players to make their return included Abeywickrama (0) and one down batsman, Aamir Shaikh (0).
The Italians’ loss came at an early 2 runs mark for the side. With Bhuiyan holding on to his stumps, the opener was then joined in by MPIN de Silva. The pair managed to go on with the procession, but failed to continue with the closure of Bhuiyan’s (8) innings.
De Silva (1), followed by middle order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michele-Morettini-c76261 (1), fell as the 4th and 5th quick wickets for the Gibraltar bowlers. More loss came with 6th player, Charith Rajamanthri losing out on his stumps.
Following the rapid wicket losses, the troubled Italian batting side had secured a minor 32 runs total.   
Although, the bowling side managed to offer some impressive performance, securing Italian wickets, however, the team’s excessive extra deliveries added some support to the batting side.
With Jakub Peret and Alamin Mia taking over the remaining chase, the pair finally rescued the side, eventually wrapping up the session in the 20th over, complements 29 extras from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Italy-c2926’s third consistent one on
the tournament.
