http://www.senore.com/Cricket/France-c2899 U-19 and Norway U-19 contended each other on July 31, 2011 at Cronkbourne Sports and Social Club Ground, Tromode (neutral venue).
French skipper Thomas Liddiard won the toss and elected http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472o field first. Openers T Ajaib and Jamal Rana came out to commence the Norwegian batting innings. Norway did not have a good start as Ajaib got caught out at the hands of Murphy on a delivery by Gribbell.
He scored 12 runs off 12 deliveries at a strike rate of 100.00.
Pratik Agnihotri came out to bat after Ajaib’s dismissal but remained unfortunate as got lbw out at a fine delivery by Liddiard. He returned to the pavilion at duck, making way for the wicket-keeping batsman Mehmood.
Skipper Liddiard struck again for his team and dismissed the opening batsman Jamal Rana who managed to score 5 runs off 22 deliveries.
Norwegian batsmen could not play the French bowlers well and lost early wickets. Abidul Haq was the next batman out but became the victim of some brilliant bowling by the French captain.
Liddiard had bowled him out at duck and earned 3rd wicket for himself. Next two men to be dismissed were Haji Razzak and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Majid-Jahangir-Khan-c73930.
Razak was given lbw out at Ali’s delivery while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 got run out at a direct throw by Zika Ali. The match was reduced to 27 overs maximum using D/L method. Norway managed to score 86 runs in 27 overs at the loss of 6 wickets.
The leading wicket taker from the French team was the skipper Liddiard who knocked out three Norwegian players by giving away just 18 runs. Ali and Gribbell took one wicket each.
France was given the target of 93 runs from 25 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-c89347 came out to begin with the chase of target. The beginning was not as per the team had planned as Murphy got bowled out at the hands of Mosawar Ahmad. He could not contribute
even a single run to the team’s total.
William Smati came out to support Shahid and score for his team. Both these players partnered well and completed the target with any further fall of wickets. Shahid remained unbeaten and scored 41 runs off 39 deliveries. He had a good strike rate of 105.12
and his innigs included 6 boundaries.
Smati contributed 38 runs of 31 deliveries at an impressive strike rate of 122.58. With 17 extra runs off the innings, France completed the target of 93 runs in just 13.1 overs at the loss of just 1 wicket.
The France Under-19 team won the match by 9 wickets with 71 balls remaining (D/L method). This was the 2nd French victory of the championship so far.
