European Under-19 Championship: Germany U-19s v Gibraltar U-19s – Match Recap
Gibraltar Under-19s defeated Germany Under-19s by 7 wickets in a 50-over game of European Under-19 Championship Division Two Group A yesterday, August 1 at Vagabonds Cricket Club Ground, Braddan. Reducing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibraltar-c2906 comfortably chased
down the target in just 21.1 overs for the loss of 3 wickets and convincingly won the game.
Winning the toss, Germany elected to bat first, starting their innings with Leonard Gerhards and Ibrahim Awan as openers.
The start was good but the batsmen could not carry the momentum forward. Awan was the first wicket to fall on 32 runs. He scored 14 off 38 balls.
The one-down batsman, Konrad Fuchs, was looking to be in good form as he showed great resistance to the furious bowlers of Gibraltar. However, the second wicket partnership could add only 14 runs in the innings and Gerhards fell after scoring 15 from 48
deliveries.
Steven Richards, the skipper, was the next batsman to struggle against the destructive bowling attack.
The third wicket partnership was somewhat strong and long as Steven and Fuchs contributed 42 runs. Richard was dismissed for 11 off 20 balls.
Fuchs kept firing till the first half of the innings but was caught behind on his team’s score of 96. He made 33 runs off 60 balls with the help of 3 fours.
After the collapse of the 4th wicket, Germany U-19s’ demise ushered as none of the remaining batsman dared to make double figures.
The middle-order batsman, Thomas Carter, scored 8 while the next two batsmen, Tushar Marwaha and Mansor Mubarik, could not open the ducks.
From the lower-order, Mohsan Hayat and Ritvik Marwaha scored 1 and 5 respectively while Christian Hein and Hannes Bagge made 0 and 1 respectively.
Thus, the entire batting line-up of Germany was washed out for just 113 runs in 37.2 overs. The total included 25 extra runs. The team’s run rate had been 3.02 per over.
In the bowling department of Gibraltar, Guy Dumas was the top wicket taker with a 5-wicket haul, followed by Kayron J Stagno, who bowled 2 players. Among others, Matthew Hunter, Simon Dumas and Karl Sene grabbed one wicket each.
After the lunch break, Gibraltar U-19s commenced their innings with Hunter and Dumas as openers to chase down the meager target of 114 runs.
The start was pathetic as Hunter fell after scoring just one run. The smiles of Germany bowlers soon faded away as Dumas was joined by the one-down, Stagno, and both the hard-hitting batsmen flexed their muscles to cause huge damage to the rivals and score
match winning runs.
The second-wicket partnership went on to 69 runs. Dumas was bowled for 25 runs off 36 balls.

Stagno remained not out on 62 runs from 63 deliveries while his team maneuvered victory in just 21.1 overs.
