European Universities Games: Kim Buss-Inken Wienefeld leap forward to Women’s Doubles semi-finals
Germany’s spirited duo Kim Buss-Inken Wienefeld stamped Öznur Çalışkan-Nihal Çoruh and reserved a semi-final seat in European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament on July 16, 2012.
This Women’s Doubles quarter-final was played at Rafael Lozano badminton arena of Córdoba, Spain and both teams entertained the crowd with an impressive performance of 33 minutes.
The German shuttlers displayed superior coordination and sealed a straight-set victory with 21-14 and 21-13 scores on the board.
Meanwhile, Öznur and Nihal failed to forge a productive chemistry and crashed out of the event in disgraceful manner.
They looked confused throughout this crucial match and could not perform their given roles while the opposing couple Kim-Inken followed an unbeatable strategy and passed this test with distinction.
In the first set of the match, the Turkish ladies proved themselves a little lazy as they could not move swiftly across the court and dropped many vital points.
First sign of trouble came when they allowed their challengers to gain an early advantage with four fruitful rallies.
Kim and Inken, who are representing University of D. Essen in this tournament, did not squander this initial lead and doubled the impact with 7-3 margin.
Though, they got off track later but still managed to place a decent total of 11-6 before the announcement of one-minute break.
After the interval, Öznur and Nihal picked up some pace and tried to narrow the gap in the third quarter but they could not proceed after 11-13.
The Germans clinched eight out of last 11 points and wrapped the first set with a concluding figure of 21-14.
Next game was also played in same manner as Kim and Inken established a comfortable lead in the beginning before going down in the middle and then stormed back with a strong reply.
In first half of the set, they prevailed in five nonstop rallies and reached at dominating position of 6-2.
They managed to go with same flow all the way to mid-game break and finished first half 11-5.
Later part of the game saw Turkish shuttlers making swift progress but that was not enough to avoid 13-21 defeat.
Now, Women’s Doubles partners Kim and Inken are scheduled to meet Karolina Kotte-Kristina Roman in semi-final round of the event.
