European Universities Games: Vadim Novoselov ousts Antoine Bebin in Men’s Singles round-of-16
Russia’s budding shuttler Vadim Novoselov defied all odds to secure his berth in Men’s Singles quarter-final after ousting his lower ranked challenger Antoine Bebin of France in round-of-16 battle at the European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament 2012 on Monday, July 16, in Spain.
The in-form Novoselov, who is seeded at number 8 in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, worked hard against his un-seeded French opponent and managed to win the battle in a decent fashion.
The higher ranked Novoselov had to dig into his arsenal and managed to win the opening game with a tight score. However, he was impressive on court in the following set when he played to his maximum potential and won the following game in lopsided fashion to register a spectacular victory over his rival.

Both shuttlers were at the same level and remained unable to take a considerable advantage on score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Novoselov tried to accelerate his speed but failed to take any benefit as his rival was also quick in taking the bird.
Both men reached at 21-21 when Novoselov managed to create pressure on his rival and took the game with a 23-21 margin on the board.
In the following set, Novoselov did not let his rival to show strong resistance as he played fast and positive badminton on court and took a wonderful lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the higher ranked Novoselov remained aggressive and positive which helped him to wrap up the set in a convenient manner with a huge difference of 21-14 on the board.
The in-form Novoselov managed to win this fight in straight sets by a reasonable margin of 23-21 and 21-14.
