European captain Liselotte Neumann firm to record yet another triumph at 2013 Solheim Cup
Liselotte Neumann has reportedly been picked to lead the European team at the 2013 Solheim Cup, scheduled to be played from August 16-18, at Colorado Golf Club in Parker.
The move to pick Neumann as the captain of the European squad came after Annika Sorenstam’s refusal to lead the team.
Neumann is a talented player from Sweden and has a solid profile. She has racked up to 27 titles. However, she came into prominence after she won the US Women’s Open in 1988.
Analysts have said that Sorenstam’s leadership will help the European team end the United States’ dominance.
However, the Swedish star will have to put her best foot forward, as the previous captain Alison Nicholas helped the team beat the United States in an amazing style.
The last event held at Killeen Castle Ireland was phenomenal, as the European squad beat the spectators’ expectations, inflicting a 15-13 defeat on the rival Americans.
Neumann boasts extensive experience in the Solheim Cup, as she has played 6 editions so far. However, playing as the leader of her team is going to be a different experience for her.
Speaking to the media about her selection, Neumann said that she is extremely happy to lead the European team. She said that she is aware of the pressure, as they will have to snatch the title.
The 45-year-old veteran said that the last captain of the team was amazing, which is why her fans will be keeping a close eye on her.
Having racked up 13 titles on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, Neumann is best known for her composed style on the course. She has been superb when it comes to calculated putts.
Despite having a good profile, analysts said that she will remain under scrutiny. They said that the United States is in a stronger position because it won 8 events out of the total 12 played so far.
Neumann said that winning the event will definitely require plenty of hard work, but said she is firm to do her best.
"This event has always been very special for women's golf and it brings back wonderful memories of my years on the team. I look forward to the challenge of defending the title on US soil next year," she said.
