Question:

European flight training (EFT) a few Q's?

I am approaching 16 years old at the moment and have wanted to become an airline pilot for a very long time now. I have been researching flight training schools with Ab-initio to ATPL(frozen) type courses. I believe EFT in Florida to be a cost effective, and a general good option for my training.

I just have a few questions that i would like anyone with experience of EFT to clear up:

1) I understand that accomadation is at nearby vero beach (10mins away) and transport is obviously required to get to and from the training centre. I will have a UK licence but i wont be 21 at the time so i can't drive in the USA. I was just wondering weather there is alternative travel or if there are students going to and from regularly who would offer lifts.

2)The website states that ATPL theory is a distance learning course done during intern instuction - is this true?

3)Website states Financial options (i.e. loans) can be arranged - any comments?

Any other general comments would be gd.

  1. I answered this in your other posting. Msg me if you want more detail.

Here is the paste from the other post.

Are you talking about FSA in Vero Beach or another school? If your mind is set on coming to FL, I'd check out www.deltaconnectionacademy.com

That said, you want to fly in Europe/ UK? So you would need to be licensed by the JAA, the ATP age for which is 21. That said, most if not all US schools will teach you FAA regs before JAA, and would then put you up for a CFI job or a regional feeder FO job. Since you won't be able to do ATP until 21 in Europe, you would need to get a worker permit in the States in order to sustain yourself for the time being or head back home and do CFI there.

With this in mind, I say check out some schools closer to home, it may be a bit more efficient after all.

    To answer the questions, then:

1)I doubt it... might be a bus, assuming the school you are talking about is at a commercial airport.

2)ATPL theory is not a difficult course, and you can easily do that on your own.

3)Loans... oh man, you will probably need a cosigner at your age, and prepare for a ridiculous APR.

Keep in mind - a lot of these part 141 schools require, at minima, a high school diploma. Cheers.
