Europeans likely to hold upper hand in India

European Ladies European Tour (LET) stars, who finished off the last season in impressive style, are once again planning to take Indian Open title back home.
Swedish Caroline Hedwall, who won the Hero Women’s Indian Open 2011, is confident that she can repeat her last year’s performance at the upcoming edition, set to be played from November 30th
to December 2nd, at the DLF Golf & Country Club, India.
Not only Hedwall, most of the other Europeans are also being considered favourite for the title at Indian Open, but they may face some challenge from Asian and Australian rivals as well.
Since the launch of the three-round tournament, Asian contenders have shown that they are superior, given their advantage of the course and weather conditions.
The first edition was played in 2007, which current world number one Yani Tseng won in grand style. Thai Pornanong Phatlum snapped up the chance and grabbed two consecutive titles in 2008
and 2009.
However, Europeans asserted their presence in 2010, as English Laura Davies racked up the title. It was a big success for a European in a field packed with talented Asian players.
Then the 2011 edition saw Caroline Hedwall cement European legacy.
Hedwall expressed her confidence in her latest interview, saying she is happy to be back in India, and her biggest goal for the season is to defend her title.
“Actually it was a very unexpected win, as I got ill in the beginning of the week last year,” said the Swede who has racked up a total of five LET titles since she turned professional in 2011.
“I felt alright when the tournament started but was pretty low on energy and I guess that helped me as I didn't have any expectations on myself”.
Hedwall has stunned her rivals by recording five victories in less than two years. The inaugural year (2011) of her pro career saw her grab four titles.
Other European stars who can grab the headlines in India are Scottish Carly Booth and Trish Johnson of England. Booth has grabbed two LET titles for the season so far, and is confident to
take her success journey to the next level.
Davies, who is still eager to keep winning, cannot be written off as a veteran.
