Europeans steel for tough battle at Evian Masters 2012
European LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars are steeling for a tough battle at the Evian Masters 2012, set to begin from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France.
The Evian Masters 2012 field is loaded with plenty of battle-hardened LPGA contenders, but European squad appears to be in high spirits, as it has players who were part of the team that won the Solheim Cup
2011.
The published field will include Catriona Matthew, Azahara Munoz, Sandra Gal, Caroline Hedwall, Anna Nordqvist, Melissa Reid, Maria Hjorth, Sophie Gustafson, Christel Boeljon, Laura Davies, Karen Stupples and
Suzann Pettersen.
Analysts said that European players are in stronger position, as they have an edge over their rivals because of the home crowd. The crowd in France is most likely to go in favour of region’s players — something
very important to keep players motivated in a professional tournament.
In addition to fans’ support, Europeans will be enjoying the course as well, as most of the players are used to it.
Despite a strong line-up, European contenders will have to face an uphill task to grab a title at Evian-les-Bains, because the last three events show a completely different story. The last three editions of
the Evian Masters were won by Asians.
Overall, Europeans have a much better record at the prestigious LPGA tournament, but a stellar performance from South Korean players in recent years has made it difficult to predict who is going to be the winner
at the 2012 Evian Masters.
Moreover, the current world number one Yani Tseng, who is eager to start winning again, will be gracing the field. Tseng belongs to Taiwan, and has vowed to do her best in the upcoming tournament.
Prominent European stars, Norwegian Suzann Pettersen and Sandra Gal of Germany will likely grab attention, as they appear to be in a far stronger position than other players from the region.
On the other hand, American contenders will also want to regain their glory in France this week, as most of the national players have been pushed back by Asians in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Analysts said that Europeans are definitely seeking to regain their winning form, but it remains to be seen how they beat the odds when they come face-to-face against rivals.
