Euxton Hall lands Spindrifter Conditions Stakes at Pontefract
Euxton Hall performed to his high repute at Pontefract, sealing a classy victory in the Spindrifter Conditions Stakes, held on Monday, July 2nd. The 8-11 favourite defeated his three opponents with ease, as he kept himself in the front row all
the way through.
In the hands of Tony Hamilton, the Richard Fahey-trained took a handsome lead a couple of furlongs before the post. He was in no danger afterwards, because the entire pack failed to match his speed.
After establishing his supremacy, the dashing colt did not make any mistake whatsoever. He ran outstandingly till the finish and eventually secured the top rank by ¾ a length. Royal Rascal tried hard to challenge the champion runner inside the final furlong,
but failed terribly.
She had every chance of troubling the leader in the final moments, but since Tim Easterby’s filly could not pump up her speed in the final 75 yards, it was almost impossible for her to grab the top prize. Under David Allan, the 2-year-old was lucky and unlucky
at the same time.
While she narrowly missed the first position, the runner-up place came to her credit just by a tiny margin. Royal Rascal was lucky to seize the spot by a short head’s distance.
Top Notch Tonto also did well to beat Mazeppa, who led the proceedings in the beginning. Despite being in the back row, Ian McInnes’ charge came up with a fine act to ensure the third rank. Mazeppa got weakened in the final moments and as a result, finished
at bottom of the table.
Fahey's assistant, Robin O'Ryan, praised Euxton Hall’s fantastic temperament and expressed delight over bagging the winning cheque. After clinching a fine victory, the bay colt emerged as a possibility for the Gimcrack Stakes, to be held at York later this
season.
The handler’s assistant said after the race: "He's a grand little horse with a fantastic temperament."
"The ground's very soft but he stays well and has a great attitude. He just wasn't doing a lot in front and Tony said he was floundering a bit on that ground. He's in the sales races and the Gimcrack might be a possibility, but we'll take him home and Richard
and David (Armstrong, owner) will have a chat," he added.
