Eva Fabian accomplishes Women’s 10km title - Marathon Swimming World Cup 2012, Patagones-Viedma
World champion, Eva Fabian of USA stifled all struggles of her competitors by accomplishing gold medal of the Women’s 10km swim at the 2012 Marathon Swimming World Cup in Patagones-Viedma, Argentina on Saturday, February 4.
Patagones-Viedma is the second stop of eight-leg Marathon Cup, which is organised by the international aquatic sports governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
With the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, the 10km Marathon Cup is of utmost importance as it will provide an opportunity to elite players to warm themselves up before the mega event.
The 18-year-old Fabian stunned the open water crowd with her scintillating efforts in the 10km discipline, through which she managed to outsmart her competitors on the finishing wall and claimed gold medal of the event.
Previously, the American teenage expert displayed her phenomenal skills in the 5km discipline at the 2010 World Open Water Championships in Roberval. The same year, she captured silver medal in the 10km discipline at the Irvine Pan Pacific Championships.
The champion faced tough confrontation from her team-member, Haley Anderson and Germany’s Nadine Reichert in the distant open water event, but crossed the finishing line first for the title of the event.
Anderson engaged her in a stroke-to-stroke race in the first half of the race, but her forceful effort was cut short by Fabian’s powerful strokes in the second half. With her relentless efforts, Fabian gained a prominent lead over her closest challenger
and made her way through the finishing line for gold medal in a wonderful time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 08.11 seconds.
She remained 6.03 seconds ahead of Anderson, who followed her on the podium for silver medal by completing her swim with an effort of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 14.14 seconds. Subsequently, the arena witnessed a remarkable struggle of Reichert, who seized bronze
medal of the event by concluding her swim in a time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 21.23 seconds.
Fabian received a huge round of applause from the audience for her fascinating efforts and articulated her desire of continuing the same at the upcoming stages of 10km World Cup.
