Eva Fabian and Alex Meyer book their places for 2011 FINA World Championships
Swimming sensations, Eva Fabian and Alex Meyer, have booked their places for the 2011 FINA World Championships after claiming the 10km open water swimming titles in the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships, held at Fort Lauderdale, in Florida,
on June 10, 2011.
Fabian took home the Women’s 10m open water swimming crown with a sterling time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 31.26 seconds, while Christine Jennings wound up second with a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 33.06 seconds. Ashley Twichell secured the third spot
in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 36.76 seconds.
After winning the colossal meet, Fabian said that she is thrilled with her individual performance in the event and that representing her country in the World Championships will be a fabulous moment of her life.
She further told that the conditions were very tricky and testing for her initially, but she won the exciting battle due to her resolute speed and steadfast stamina.
After securing the second spot, Jennings said, “It was a great learning experience. The first 5k I kept swallowing water and salt water dehydrates you. I was getting a headache. I kept saying, 'You gotta hold on," and I started praying, 'God, you have to
help me through this one.”
On the other hand, the Men’s 10km open water swim title was taken over by Alex Meyer with a victorious time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 36.90 seconds, while Ryan Sean snared silver with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 38.46 seconds.
After the event, Meyer said that the race was one of the trickiest of his career due to the poor water conditions, but he admitted that such circumstances certainly gear swimmers to cope with them proactively, in open water swimming.
The third spot in the corresponding race was won by Andrew Gemmell with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 41.63 seconds.
Both Eva Fabian and Alex Meyer have earned their place to compete at the 2011 FINA World Championships, which will be held in Shanghai from July 16-31, 2011.
