Eva Risztov wins Women’s 400m freestyle heats: Day seven – European LC Championships
Eva Risztov of Hungary won the qualification rounds of Women’s 400m freestyle on day seven of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Sunday, May 27.
The 26-year-old Risztov stayed marginally faster from her challengers in the eight-lap freestyle event and ensured her place in the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
With her epic pace, she remained just one stroke ahead of her closest competitor and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 10.25 seconds.
She was followed by Martina De Memme of Italy, who was only 0.19 seconds apart and touched the wall as second best swimmer with timings of 4 minutes and 10.44 seconds.
Third fastest qualification spot of the event was secured by Coralie Balmy of France, who remained 0.63 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 11.07 seconds.
Similarly, Balmy remained only 0.08 seconds faster from Boglarka Kapas of Hungary, who proved her eligibility for fourth fastest spot of the discipline by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 11.15 seconds.
Kapas was chased by Camelia Potec of Romania, who was 0.28 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the finishing blockade by reporting an effort of 4 minutes and 11.43 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth finest qualification spot of the event was obtained by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who was nearly full body length behind and produced an effort of 4 minutes and 12.30 seconds.
Belmonte Garcia was traced by Ophelie Cyrielle Etienne of France, who remained 0.56 seconds apart and emerged on the wall as seventh best finisher with the timing of 4 minutes and 12.86 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was obtained by Alice Nesti of Italy, who was just a stroke behind and posted a time of 4 minutes and 13.05 seconds.
The arena appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in the 400m event while these finalists will face each other in the playoff of their exclusive event at the evening session of the tournament. Furthermore, the session ended after the completion
of all swimming events.
