Eva and Paula advance into Women’s Doubles final – Canadian International Challenge 2013
Eva Lee and Paula Lynn Obanana, the most talented players from USA, stayed on track and advanced into Women’s Doubles final at the 2013 Ottawa Canadian International Challenge, which is being held in Ottawa.
In the semi-final clash, the top seeded Eva and Paula showed a great aggression and outwitted Canada’s Nadianie Ouaqouaq-Bergeron and Virgine Savard in a dominating fashion on Friday, June 28.
The in-form Eva and Paula, who sailed smoothly throughout the championship, played with remarkable precision in the semi-final contest and easily gave a severe treatment to their local opponents. They finished
up this contest in straight games in just 22 minutes with a huge 21-13 and 21-6 score on the board.
On the other hand, the unseeded duo of Nadianie and Virgine appeared quite helpless against the attacking and controlled play of their opponents. Despite having the support of home fans, they could not live up
to expectations and lost the match in a lopsided way.
In the starting points of the first game, Eva and Paula did not take much time in setting up a huge lead on the score board. They remained consistent in their aggressive and dominating play that helped them in
creating a huge gap until the break.
After the one-minute interval, the local shuttlers tried to show their aggression in the arena but they could not push their opponents on back foot at any stage and remained struggling behind.
Meanwhile, the top seeded Eva and Paula continued their positive play in the concluding part of opening set and won it with a huge 21-13 score on the board.
In the following set, Eva and Paula proved that they deserve to stay at the top as they played flawless badminton and again set up a wonderful gap until the one-minute interval.
After the break, USA shuttlers stayed calm in their temperament and they easily finished up the second game with a completely lopsided 21-6 score on the board.
In the final battle, Eva and Paula will lock horns against another Canadian pair, Alex Bruce and Phyllis Chan, who won their semi-final clash in hard-fought rubber games.
