  1. for f(1), plug in 1 for x in the F(x) equation.

for f(x-8), plug in x-8 for x in the f(x) eq

I'll show you the confusing one f(x-8) and you do the easy one f(1)

    Sq rt((x-8)+8)+2

    sq rt (x) + 2

  2. you're plugging in what is in the parenthesis (1 and x-8) in for x in your first equation.  so you are looking for the answers to these two equations:

    squareroot(1+8) + 2

    and

    squareroot(x-8)+8 +2

    the first one is

    squareroot(9) +2

    which is 5

i'm not sure about the second one...did you type it right?  are you sure it is F(x-8)?  no typo in there?  right now the farthest you can get is squarerootx +2; its not fully solvable yet.

  3. F(x) = √(x+8) + 2

    F(1) = √(1+8) + 2

    F(1) = √9 + 2

    F(1) = 3 + 2

    F(1) = 5

    ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

    F(x - 8) = √((x - 8) + 8) + 2

    F(x - 8) = √x + 2

    ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
