Evan Gattis joins list of top prospects for Atlanta Braves in 2012 - MLB Update
Evan Gattis’ consistent shows at the plate in the Minor League earn him the status of being a part of the list of top prospects of Atlanta Braves in 2012.
He has been posting an impressive batting average over the last two years.
The pace with which he is improving every year, he can help the Braves somewhere down the 2013 Major League regular season at outfield.
What makes his entry next year more probable is the fact that the Braves face the shortage of outfielders at the moment. They will be doing the shopping in the free agent market keeping this need in mind.
It will not be surprising if they ink a blockbuster deal with one of the free agents in the offseason.
The Braves qualified for the playoffs this year after posting an impressive winning percentage in the regular season. In order to continue putting up incredible win-loss records in the upcoming seasons, they will be aware of their weaknesses.
They cannot afford to be complacent. Overlooking the problems that can hamper the progress potentially will amount to a fatal mistake from their part.
Right now, outfield is the area that requires their attention. They will be looking to go through both internal and external options in order to fill the vacant spots. The team will be taking a review of their farm system to ascertain that if someone is
capable enough that he is brought into the fold immediately.
While external options in the form of free agents are known widely, what can remain hidden is a quality prospect they have in their Minor League system.
Gattis may not enjoy the same media spotlight that the other potential outfielders for the Braves can but he certainly has shown the class by performing tremendously well in the last two years.
He is capable of hitting home-runs and slamming massive hits. Gattis carried out the catching job at the beginning of his career before he was shifted to the outfield.
With Chipper Jones retired, the Braves are in a lookout for sluggers. In light of this, Gattis can fit in the equation easily.
It will be interesting to see as to when the Braves call him in the Majors during 2013 regular season.
