Evan Geiselman and Kolohe Andino win Round 4 of the Reef Hawaiian Pro 2011
After a series of thrilling Round 3 battles, the Reef Hawaiian Pro kept delivering a heavy dose of exciting action to the fans with the Round of 32 (Round 4) at Haleiwa in Oahu, Hawaii, on Wednesday, November 23. The first heat saw America’s Evan Geiselman
take on Australia’s Kieren Perrow, Basque’s Hodei Collazo and France’s Maxime Huscenot, while America’s Kolohe Andino squared off with his compatriot Nat Young, Reunion Island’s Adrien Toyon and Hawaii’s Ezekiel Lau in the second heat.
Geiselman emerged triumphant in the opening heat of Round 4 to confirm his place in the Quarter-Finals, while Perrow also clinched the Quarter-Final spot after finishing as runner-up. Collazo and Huscenot rounded out the third and fourth positions respectively,
consequently getting eliminated from the competition.
Andino prevailed in the second heat to make a place for himself in the Quarter-Finals, while Young rounded out the second place to go through into the next stage of the competition as well. Toyon and Lau got ejected from the contention for the event-title
after rounding out the third and fourth position respectively.
The 18-year-old Geiselman caught a wave in the openings minutes of the first Round 4 heat to draw first blood, posting a 4.00 on the score-board. He soon added an additional 7.33 points to his account, which carried him off to a heat-total of 11.33 points
and consequently served to seal the fate of the contest in his favour.
Perrow put up a decent performance during the 20-minute heat as well and collected a couple of fives to finish with a heat-total of 10.73 points. The score proved sufficient to earn him the runner-up place and thus confirm a spot for him in the Quarter-Finals.
Collazo merely got to a heat-total of 6.84 points despite a determined and persistent hunt, which forced him to settle for third place and thus led to his elimination from the competition. Huscenot completely succumbed to the demanding surfing conditions
and ended up looking completely lost during the bout. Finishing with a heat-total of merely 2.90 points, the Frenchman rounded out the bottom position, consequently getting ejected from the event.
The second heat saw the young American prodigy, Andino, clinch victory with what turned out to be quite a convincing margin in the end. He scored a 5.17 off his first business-wave and soon followed it up with a 6.67-point wave to finish with a winning heat-total
of 11.84 points.
Young had made his compatriot, Andino, sweat for a while during the middle stages of the heat with a first-wave score of 5.33 points, but failed to worry him any further after failing to add anything better than a 4.37 to his account. Finishing with a heat-total
of 9.70 points, Young settled for runner-up place, which was a good enough result to get him through into the Quarter-Finals.
A heat-total of 9.27 points got Toyon the third position, which led to his elimination from the competition. Also getting removed from the contention for the event-total was Lau, who ended the heat with a two-wave total of 9.13 points.
