Evan Longoria glows as Tampa Bay Rays edge past New York Yankees 8-7 - MLB Update

Tampa Bay Rays’ third baseman, Evan Longoria had an extraordinary with the bat as he hit four RBIs along with two homers and went 2-for-5 with an average of .244 in the Rays’ 8-7 victory against the New York Yankees at Tropicana Field, Florida on September
28.
Yankees executed pretty well and posted their initial run in the first inning to get a 1-0 lead. Robinson Cano was saved to reach at first base on the error of Rays’ second baseman Ben Zobrist and Curtis Granderson added the first run for the Yankees. In
the second inning, Yankees smashed four quick runs to advance their lead 5-0.
Mark Teixeira hit his first homer (419 feet) towards left-field while Eduardo Nunez, Brandon Laird and Derek Jeter each singled to complete a four-run campaign for Yankees. Nunez stole second base and Nick Swisher doubled to deep centre-field but Andruw
Jones struck-out looking and Laird flied out towards left-field during the third inning.
At the bottom of the third, Desmond Jennings walked and stole second base but B.J. Upton flied out and Matt Joyce popped out without scoring any run. Teixeira hit a second home-run (373 feet) towards left-field to give the Yankees a 6-0 lead at the top of
the fourth. Yankees contributed one run in the fifth inning and advanced their lead 7-0 when Jones struck a solo homer (404 feet) to left-field.
Rays’ batters smashed six quick runs in the eighth inning to cut their deficit 7-6. Sam Fuld walked and Johnny Damon scored the first run for the Rays. The second run was taken by Zobrist when Sean Rodriguez was hit by a pitch and Fuld moved to second base.
Casey Kotchman scored a single run when Upton hit a sacrifice fly to left-field.
Longoria struck a three-run homer (410 feet) towards left-field while Fuld and Rodriguez both contributed two collective runs to end the six-run campaign for the Rays. Dan Johnson hit a solo home-run towards right-field to tie the game 7-7 at the bottom
of ninth inning. In the 12th inning, Longoria struck a decisive homer (327 feet) towards left-field to give the Rays a convincing 8-7 lead.
As a result, Rays swept the Yankees 3-0 in the three-game series played at Tropicana Field.
