Evan Pinion pockets Boys 800m freestyle gold medal: Day three – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Evan Pinion of United States pocketed the gold medal of Boys 800m freestyle discipline on day three of the 2011 Federation Internationale De Natation scheduled 3rd World Junior Championships on Thursday, August 18, in Lima, Peru.
The 17-year-old Pinion improved the championship record of the distant freestyle swim, by winning the title of the event in an astounding time of 7 minutes and 55.92 seconds. His time was considerably below the previous championship mark of 8 minutes and
01.77 seconds, set by Heerden Herman of South Africa during 2008. Nevertheless, the gold winning effort of the American youngster was 23.80 seconds away from the world record of 7 minutes and 32.12 seconds, made by Lin Zhang of China in 2009, at the Rome World
Championships.
Pinion was chased by Italian swimmer, Gabriele Detti, who remained only 4.30 seconds slower than the gold winner and submitted a time of 8 minutes and 00.22 seconds for the silver medal. Detti was in a lead of 1.84 seconds over his closest competitor, Gregorio
Paltrinieri of Italy, who acquired the podium for bronze medal, by reporting in a time of 8 minutes and 02.06 seconds.
Paltrinieri was in a lead of 3.67 seconds over his following swimmer, Matthew Levings of Australia, who secured fourth position of the event, with a timing of 8 minutes and 05.73 seconds. Levings out-touched his subsequent swimmer, Matthew Ian Johnson of
Great Britain, with a margin of only 0.10 seconds, as Johnson finished his swim in a time of 8 minutes and 05.83 seconds.
The sixth best spot was attained by Alec Page of Canada, who stayed only 0.09 seconds slower and posted an effort of 8 minutes and 05.92 seconds. Miguel A Rozas Lopez of Spain was the seventh position holder of the event, as he clocked a time of 8 minutes
and 06.17 seconds, while Filip Zaborowski of Poland ended up eighth, with a timing of 8 minutes and 06.75 seconds. The winners were awarded with medals and accolades for their immaculate efforts after the session.
