Evan Turner stars as Philadelphia Sixers sneak past Boston Celtics 106-100: NBA Recap
Evan Turner scored a game high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as he guided Philadelphia 76ers to a victory over the upbeat Boston Celtics on Friday night. He was well assisted by Jrue Holiday who added 21 points and 14 assists
for the visitors to cap off an impressive scoring performance compared to their ordinary average of 83.3 per game so far this season.
Celtics tried to come back in the second half after giving away a 12 point advantage at half time but it was not going to be their night. Paul Pierce scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half and Rajon Rondo also put up an
impressive display with 14 points and 20 assists but the Celtics failed to keep a check on the Sixers scoring and thus could not pull off a comeback.
"Great, great win for us, on the road, character builder, team builder, all the things we are trying to do. I said 'can we say connected and trust each other through adversity→' That's what I kept saying to them, and we did."
-- Philadelphia coach Doug Collins said after the win.
Boston, feeding from the energy of the home crowd went up 6-0 immediately, before the Sixers bounced back and a Holiday dunk shot put the Sixers up 11-10 around the mid quarter mark. Thaddeus Young jump shot opened up a 6 point
lead for the Sixers at 17-11 but the Celtics cut the deficit to three by the end of the period, trailing 20-23.
Young fired two three pointers as Sixers started the second quarter in style going up 31-20 at the back of an 8-0 run. Both sides were equally distributed in the scoring table for the next few minutes, however ,Sixers gradually
cemented their authority as they went into half time leading 57-45.
Celtics managed to outscore the 76ers in the last two quarters but it was not enough to cut the 12 point deficit the Phillies had built by halftime. Rondo’s layup cut the Sixers lead to 54-63 before Dorell Wright free throws put
the Sixers up 73-58 later in the period. Celtics went on an 8-0 run to get to 66-75 but Sixers kept up the pressure and an Evan Turner jump shot in the closing moments put them up by 83-74.
The Celtics scored 5 quick points to make it a four point game at 79-83 before Sixers replied with a 10-0 run to go up by 93-79. They were enjoying a comfortable 12 points lead 3 minutes from the end but the Celtics showed some
spark as they scored six straight points to cut the deficit to 94-100. Sixers however, maintained this six point margin till the end to finish off at 106-100.
