Both outstanding fighters, would very much have liked to see these guys fight in their prime.

  1. I would have to go with Larry Holmes winning that bout. Peter H, Chris Guzman, and Devon P pretty much summed up the reasons behind my pick, leaving me little room to add-on.

  2. I think Evander Holyfield had a lot of gifts, and was truly a top 15 heavyweight of all time. . . . .but he had trouble with men that Holmes would have blown out, like Dwight Braxton (Qawi) and Bert Cooper.

Holmes had the single-greatest jab in heavyweight history, and with his reach, he could land it from almost anywhere he was while in the ring.  The men that gave Holmes trouble, like Norton or Shavers, would have also given fits to Holyfield.  Actually, Shavers would have killed him, and Norton would have given 'Vander all he could handle.

Holmes and Holyfield would probably both feel the floor at some point in this one. . . .but Good Ol' Larry would end it in the championship rounds. . . . 13-15. . . . . Holmes UD15

  3. Holmes's jab and reach would be more than Holyfield could overcome. I think Larry would win an uneventfull fairly one-sided match.

  4. You know an older  Holmes gave Holyfield trouble in Holyfield's prime in 1992. I would see a 1980 Holmes using good ring generalship and keeping Holyfield at bay with Jabs an the occassional uppercut. I see Holmes winning by a close UD.

  5. Holmes peppers EH from range to win an easy decision.  11 rounds to 4.  Easy matchup for the Easton Assassin and EH's bravery and suspect defense gets him hit too often.

  6. Evander Holyfield would wipe the floor with him , he has always been one of the best conditioned boxers and he is relentless

  7. Holyfield was great to watch, high energy, good chin, "warrior" mentality, etc. - but Larry Holmes was just flat out better than him.  Holmes was realtively competive when the two matched up in the early 90's, going all 12 rounds.

If these two had met up when Holmes was primed, he would have really dominated Evander.  Holmes jab was second to none, his techinque was sharp, he was quick, tough, and had real knockout power - you can question his quality of opposition, but he still was 48-0 before losing, that shows real focus.

You have to love watching Holyfield in action, but the fact is his standing in history is overrated - against Bowe and Lewis his record is a combined 1-3-1; his ultra high ranking among heavyweights is based almost soley on his win of Tyson...how do you go from being KOd by Riddick Bowe then beating Tyson (who at that point everyone sort of determined was overrated) and become one of the top heavyweights of all-time?

Against a top tier heavyweight, like Larry Holmes, Holyfield would be overmatched.

  8. evander gives it everything, like he did in his first fight with bowe, but larry takes a split decision over the real deal.
