  1. I just asked this question sir.  Here is my opinion nonetheless;  Jersey Joe Walcott was a very clever, fast, and powerful fighter.  He seemed to get better as he got older much like Archie Moore did in his career.  Walcott was robbed of the decision in his championship fight with the legendary Joe Louis in 1947, knocked out the great Ezzard Charles in 7 rounds to win the title in 1951 and gave Rocky Marciano a very difficult fight before losing his title to him in 1952.  He usually fought around 195 as a heavyweight and stayed in top condition.  Evander Holyfield is well known for moving up in weight class and beating Mike Tyson twice, Riddick Bowe, and  Michael Moorer during his prime years.  Holyfield bulked up quite a bit after he hired personal trainer Haney becoming a 215-220 lb well muscled heavyweight.  He is known for his determination and tenacity in the ring.  I believe this would be an excellent matchup with Holyfield's determination and Walcott's cleverness in the ring.  Both are fairly equal in the power department.  I believe that Walcott outsmarts Holyfield in this fight and wins a close but unanimous decision.

  2. this is a great matchup.  I really don't know who would win.  Maybe an even money fight.  I guess if I had to pick one I would go with Walcott.  Jersey joe was very tricky and smooth.  He may have been to out box Evander.  Walcott also had the toughness and endurance to hang with Evander

  3. Holyfield by 10Th round KO

  4. Ths would be an intresting bout. Both had equal power but Walcott was quicker and faster. Both were gentlemen in the ring too. I say Evander uses his size to take advantage early but Walcott gains the edge halfway through to take a close exciting split decesion

  5. Both men are over-achievers of sorts.  Walcott wasnt expected to win the title after losing twice to Ezzard Charles.  He would have lost a bunch of times to Charles had Charles never killed Sam Bouardi in the ring.  Ezzard was never the same after that.

Holyfield was gutsy and stubborn.  He doesnt know the meaning of the word 'quit'.  He is a man of strong will.  Walcott would keep Holyfield off balance most of the fight.  Evander is no speed demon but he throws a lot of punches.  This keeps his opponents off balance and discourages many of them.  Walcott would never become discouraged.

I see Walcott hitting Holyfield with punches from different angles and frustrating him.  However,  I think Holyfield would out work Joe over the distance.  This is the kind of fight he usually finds a way to win, even if he doesnt always look good.

I cant see Holyfield seriously hurting Walcott.  Evander really isnt a big puncher.  He can catch you right and floor you.  Ask Buster Douglas.  Walcott can send you to q***r street with that uppercut.  However,  Holyfield has a great chin.  If he sufferes a knockdown he loses a close one.

Im thinking Holyfield would survive without being knocked down.  The decision isnt a popular one but I think Evander would edge out Joe.

Holyfield by close decision in 15
