Evangelicals, Let's assume Obama was actually a Muslim. So what? ?

So let's assume for one minute that he, deep down, just loved the Koran as a kid. Let's even assume he cuddled with a blanket next to the fireplace and fell asleep sweetly dreaming of the pages he just read of his beloved Koran.

1. Who cares? Last I checked, you didn't have to be a card carrying Evangelical Christian who has "lunch in his heart with Jesus" to be President.

2. Isn't the fact that he is a professed Christian NOW a really touchy feely story of conversion and "seeing the light"?

If someone wanted to vote against him for being too liberal that's a valid judgment. But why the slander based on him basically just being different from the stereotype of a Presidential candidate?

  1. "Becuz it's damned un-American not to have a plastic Jesus doll hanging in your bathroom!  How can he understand the economy, foreign relations, the Constitution, etc, with out Jesus to tell him what to do?"

  2. I kinda agree with you my issue with him is that with all politicians he is playing to the center in the election year. They all do it so that's not anything against him that's just how it works. The reason I can not vote for him is because I see him as to much of a Liberal and I feel he does not have enough experience and sadly is just another politician. If he was a regular guy running like from the middle class with no real political background then I would vote for him. The sad thing is he is just another politician. Notice who he picked as his VP candidate, I mean that is about as far as from "reform" as you could get unless he picked Ted Kennedy. I do like Kennedy on his ideas and so on when it comes to history however. I mean he is big on teaching our children about U.S. history which well, they really need a lot more of. But anyway that's why I will not vote for Obama. Keep in mind I am saying this as an American who is can not find a job due to the economy. The thing is this will pass like things like this always do and yes I voted for Bush twice. Looking back well I still think I picked the lesser of two evils but Bush is far, far, OH so very far from anything great or even a conservative for that matter.

  3. do you really think obama is good? i think he sucks and hope mccain beats him!! if you disagree you should go vote for obama on this site..

  4. Fundies only want a christian president.

  5. I'd still vote for the guy

  6. 2.  The fundies don't believe that he is a True Christian.  True Christians are, as they all know, politically to the right of Genghis Khan.

  7. People who want to keep our government infected with the ignorance of fundamentalism, will stoop to any level to make up lies about a person who stands for CHANGE.

What has Obama done anyway, besides..

Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend.

-After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

-His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent.

-Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.

    And...

-Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.

-As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan.

-He traveled to Russia with Republican d**k Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world.

-Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting...

    And...

    - In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began.

-Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.

-Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.

    And...

-Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services.

-Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts.

-Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law.

  8. I am a Christian and I honestly don't mind whether he is a Muslim or a Christian. The Muslims that I have met are very good people, with a stronger system of values than many so-called Christians.

I love Jesus Christ, but I also respect this other people who worship the God of Abraham. There is an exception for radical terrorist groups, but most Muslims are not terrorists nor want to be.

Remember when "Christians" were killing Jews in those horrible pogroms? So you recall the "White Christian" KKK lynching black guys for not keeping their eyes turned downward? Since we don't have an unspotted record, we don't have a right to be judging that all Muslims are terrorists.

  9. I agree. Why do people care?

    He's an awesome guy!

  10. Why play the religion card? It's not only "fundies " that distrust him, otherwise the race would be so close in the polls. The truth of the matter is the media and the public doesn't really know him. His past is unclear and basically he came out of nowhere. I don't care what religion/race/ethnic group is comes from, it's just WE DON'T KNOW HIM!  The same would apply if he was white, Christian, but we don't know nothing of his past. Honestly, how many even heard of him or his politics 16 months ago. Without Oprah, nobody really would. Honestly, Hillary has been on the political scene since her college days and , flattering or not, her life has been an open book. I wouldn't hire anyone, unless I knew their qualification and do a background check, why should it be any different than being President.

He was a junior senator that just jumped into the spotlight and very little is known, otherwise it would have had rumors flying around.

The American public had a right to know about the past and life of their president, because he is in the public eye and because he is going to run the country.

Again, his book came out when again? Fairly recently, around the time Oprah endorced him? If his past is so clear why nobody knew nothing about his church until youtube shown that sermon?

If you ask me, I think a politician should pay their dues in the political arena before bypassing those who did a lot before them. That's why I wasn't crazy as having Bush jr as president. Al Gore would have been MUCH BETTER!

  11. Agreed 100%. Actually, the only problem I would have would be if he was a Muslim now and was lying about it. It wouldn't be the Muslim part that bothered me. Now, if we ever do get a Muslim on the line for presidency, I'd want some pretty binding assurances that he wasn't going to bring in Sharia law, but other than that, you're right, Christian faith is not and should not be a criteria for the Presidency. By the way, I don't for a moment believe that Obama was or is a Muslim.
