Question:

Evans Gambit?

Do you think this opening in chess will ever be used in todays tournaments? Games with this opening are very fun to watch how ever I do see its weaknesses but that is coming from a non-grandmaster. I think there should be more study into this opening variation. Comments?

  1. No.  It's a variation of the Italian Game that isn't played any more.

All the Evans is good for is to surprise people who don't know the analysis.

  2. I think an Evans Gambit would be fun to see at the top level too. It's a very old opening and has been analyzed to death, but that was about a century and a half ago.

Take a look at the games in chessgames.com. Here are the Evans Gambit games (ECO code C51) - http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessopen... with a lot of commentary.

  3. You've got to love the Evans Gambit..but it's from a different era.  One problem at the GM level is that they often answer e4 with c5 (instead of e5).

For e4 e5 players they are probably booked up on it.  But even then most of those turn in to a Ruy Lopez.

  4. Huh?
