Question:

Evaporation Line VS. Faint Positive?

Hello!

I always feel bad posting because I'm not always sure if that has been posted recently! So forgive me if it has!

I am researching the difference between an Evaporation line and a faint positive. As far as I can tell, there aren't a whole lot of differences! The Evaporation lines are usually gray and I've read they usually appear when the test is drying, normally after the allotted time for a test.

But how can you tell what color a faint line is!? I checked out the peeonastick.com site and it has pictures of VERY faint positives. But I couldn't tell what color they were! Just looked like a line to me!

Anyhow, this gets down to my day. Ha ha! Selfish of me I know. This morning I got up and took a test and within the first minute there was a faint line in the positive area! It never got any darker and if I look at it now, its still there, still faint.

But I have no idea what color this is! It looks faint pink to me but I don't know if its just because its RIGHT next to that other pink line! Ah! So this evening I took another test from the same brand and it was for sure a BFN.

So either I have only a VERY small hormone level or that was an evaporation line. I have very difficult cycles to track so basically if I have any sign that ovulation is in my near future we try. The furthest I could be is 10 dpo. I know I am testing early and was surely not really expecting it to show this early.

ANYHOW! Advice on the difference between the two would be great! I promise I'm not one of the millions just asking AM I PREGNANT? I realize you cannot tell and I'm not inquiring! lol! So thanks!

  1. Hi.

A faint positive is just that. A positive test, that comes up within the 2 minutes, but is very faint. I have had 2 before.

I have never had an evaporation line. These usually occur after 10 minutes due to heat, condensation, chemical reactions, etc.

You won't get an evaporation line within the 5 minute time slot.

So, if your test was positive straight away, there's a chance that your body has just started producing hCG, but there aren't enough of it to be 100% on a HPT.

    Congratulations, and good luck.

  2. if your line came within a few minutes faint or not your pregnant so congratulations if you retest in a few days it may darken slightly

  3. It definately sounds like it could be positive. Honestly, this is just me now, I would go get a couple more tests at Dollar Tree and use my first morning's urine and test again in a couple days... by then there should be enough that the line is much clearer.

    Good luck! :)

  4. CONGRATS your preggers!!!! The line appeared almost instantly so therefore it's not a evaporation line. Test again in a few days it will be darker! Have a happy and healthy 9 months!!!

  5. Everyone always says even a faint positive is a positive.  If you are less than a weak to your next period, there is a possibility it could show.  I would think that an evaporation line would not be pink, and what are the chances tat it is a straight line right next to the pink line.  I would wait a day and test again.
