Carson was President of the student body. I went to a similar size University and in two years only saw the student body President twice and would have missed her then had she not been a very attractive woman. I am just having a problem with two people from out of town showing up and just randomly killing and robbing the student body president. This was a much admired person, thousands went to her funeral. The odds of the whole thing just don't seem right. Also, the level of violence (trouble identifying the body) was not consistent with a lets hurry up and get the money robbery. There are 28,000 students, what are the odds of getting the President?

  1. Well stop thinking about it and get some sleep..I guess the odds are pretty good now.

  2. The odds of them selecting the president at random are the exact same odds as them selecting anyone at random. IE, no matter which student they selected, it was a 28,000 to one shot. In other words, it is a coincidence, nothing more.

As for the details of the crime, it happens. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. I'm sure the police took great lengths to investigate if this was a personal crime or the killers had any connection to the victim. Sad case, though ultimately all murders are too sad for words. Best not to dwell on them.

  3. The odds of randomly choosing the student body president are just as high as randomly choosing the runner-up in last year's election for student body president, or the kid with the lowest GPA in the entire university, or the last student to exit Saunders Hall this afternoon, or any other student at the university.

It *seems* unlikely because you're paying attention to what make her unique, while ignoring what made each of the other 27,999 people unique.  But in reality, she was no more or less unique than anyone else there.
