Even if Global Warming was Over-Hyped as Some People Claim, I'm Ok With it. Are You?

Some people say that we're over-hyping the problem and we're blaming ourselves 100%. Some people may not get what I'm saying but anyway, aren't you OK with it since it would make people aware of our carelessness and would also help us be more environment-friendly?

  1. The only problem with over hyping{radical behavior} is that no one listens. PETA is a perfect example of stupid radical behavior that actually hurts a cause more then it helps.

  2. I think that it's cool to crack down on pollution, but we can't all quit living our lives because of it.

Imagine the presumptuousness of scientists 1000 years ago that might have tried to stop global warming? Didn't they think the earth was flat then?

It makes me wonder if people will die laughing at our modern science reading about this green movement 1000 years from now.

  3. The threat of EXTINCTION could be a strong motivation to do something!

  4. I'm not ok with it. It's supposed to be 'science' not philosophy or politics or fiction in any way. This whole subject is loaded with non-sense.

  5. I'm fine with over-hyping it. But I really wish we could solve the problem.

  6. I agree with this but it's not just CO2

We are using more and more electrical power.  Feel the heat coming from the back of your fridge?  More people = more power = more heat.

We are slowly turning Earth into a convection oven.  Given time, it will look like Mars does now.

  7. 20/20 hit the nail right on the head.

  8. It often is over-hyped (just watch _The Day After Tomorrow_ for an example) but that probably doesn't make people more eco-friendly.

The point 20/20 made about those being too extreme causing problems is true (PETA and those like them have caused some laws to be changed and not in the way they wanted (I won't disapprove of the changes though, they are necessary to deal with those nut cases) and also managed to get the public very annoyed at them).  Many of the things greenpeace does if the public knew them for what they really were would probably draw much the same reaction (protesting nuclear medicine, having a diesel powered ship hang banners saying to "Keep our coast oil free", etc).  There is also some evidence that the rhetoric of the Greens may have actually caused some people who would otherwise be willing to accept global warming to deny that it is happening.

OTOH there is the overton window to consider, extremists nut cases like the various 'Green' groups do tend to make real environmentalists look more moderate.

  9. EXACTLY the point I try to make everytime I get into it with someone who tries to say that GW is not real.

There are radicals in every group whose movement is passionate - doesn't always make them right tho.

But the last I checked this is supposed to be a fee country where we have the freedom to speak our minds and the power to change thing we don't like by getting involved.

So we may be proven wrong on some issues but the end result NEEDS to be that we all respect our environment more and realize that we can't keep taking it for granted. I mean look at how the black plague and other catastophic diseases were caused by UNCLEAN environments! So we may not be dying off as quickly, some diseases are slow and agonizing - like cancer.

  10. Many people may be" ok with it" until laws are enacted that tell you what you may or may not drive or even if you can drive and then the hours you can drive. How about rationing?

Fear can control but laws will control longer. If someone was to take away your home or your 2 vehicles because they did not "fit" the new and improved  rules, would you still be "ok with it"?

I sure would'nt. We really dont need government telling us what we may buy and being concerned about every aspect of our lives. Over-hyping and fear can and do lead to laws that I have just described.

  11. I'm ok with people expressing their opinions, regardless of whether or no I agree with them.

I'm not ok with paying tax on something that doesn't exist.  I don't think you'd be ok with paying a UFO tax.
