  1. This is a reasonable summary of the science from a fairly smart guy in the thick of the debate:

  2. Global warming has 2 effects on hurricanes:

    1) Increased sea surface temperatures make hurricanes stronger once they form.

    2) Increased wind shear makes hurricanes weaker.

Overall we don't know which effect will dominate, so we don't know whether global warming will make hurricanes stronger.

  3. gcns link pretends that human emitted gases are warming the Atlantic but nowhere else which is complete nonsense.  Rick is right in that it is more complicated than just warmer water.  There must be a temperature gradient that is sufficient to form hurricanes.  Generally warmer water will form stronger hurricanes but it is difficult to predict the effects of any global warming on the formation and strength of hurricanes.  The experts say there  is no significant correlation.

  4. the big storms, hurricanes and twisters etc that are supposedly down to global warming actually arent at all. theyre down to El Nino or La Nina. these are formed when different tropical winds blow temporarily in different directions causing huge storms to form. this has been written about since 1923 and so i dont think its anything to do with modern day excessive use of electricity etc! we've been experiencing one or the other of these effects since september 2006. its a naturally occuring phenominon and its nothing to worry about coz it always passes.

  5. Im not sure. I guess it's because it makes the world warmer, and hurricanes are tropical storms,so they will be stronger?

  6. Well, I wouldn't blame it on global warming 100%, but hurricanes form in warm ocean waters. The warmer the better. But I don't think the temperature increase is significant enough to cause a drastic change in hurricane formation.

  7. Global warming melts the ice caps and adds fresh water to the sea levels and hurricane "storms" run on fresh warm water, so when that melted water runs into the sea, it alters the sea level and adds more warm water for hurricane's to become stronger.

  8. According to hurricane historian Jay Barnes of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, ocean heat is the key ingredient for hurricane formation. More heat could "generate more storms and more intense hurricanes," he said.

  9. Theoreticly, it makes the hurricanes more powerfull.

I'm not sure about the 2nd question. Its something about melting of the ice.

  10. Easy, heat rises, which causes a tornado type effect......

Like stand by a barbeque grill and watch the heat....

However, algae, which lives in the ocean, eats CO2, so how CO2 causes that heat when Oxygen is what is discharged from the ocean makes these bafoons look even more idiotic....

Global warming fear mongerers are merely a cult following who don't know why and have no clue but they 'JUMPED ON THE BANDWAGON.'  You will hear words like, 'surely so many people CAN'T be wrong!'  LOL but they truly are!

  11. Global warming has nothing to do with the number of storms.

It is believed, but not proven that warming causes these storms to have greater strength.

  12. heat rises in the atmosphere to. Causing wind.. hot air goes upward to the top of the atmosphere then outward and down again

This can and will increase the number of tornados and hurricanes!

  13. Everyone agrees that warmer water CAN create hurricanes.

But people forget it takes a temperature difference of COLDER Air above the oceans.

How can ocean water warm?  Sunlight is NOT the ONLY WAY.

Explain about this warmer ocean water in the Western Pacific - 6 degree C or about 10 degree F = (huge temperature difference  compared to ocean waters on the same latitude)

Why is not this warmer ocean generating cyclones???
