I am an international student who's from Taiwan. Right now,

I'm studying in Japan for my high school. I'll have to decide which college or university to go very soon. And I would like to study law in university. My options are either going to the UK or the US for my university. I know that American universities are more expensive comparing to those in the UK. Therefore, I personally prefer studying in the UK to studying in the US. However, it is most likely true that there are more opportunities in the US . Plus, I am willing to work in Japan, Taiwan and China for those Western companis in the future.

All right, my question is that if I am planning to work in Asia and America, which country is more suitable for me? UK or US

And generally speaking, a UK and a US universities which one is cheaper ?

  1. In the US you CANNOT do law as an undergraduate degree. I know it's strange, but there you go. So In the US you'd need to do a 3 or 4 yr undergraduate degree and the 3 yr law degree. Very expensive.

On the other hand, doing a law degree in the UK you'll have to study things which aren't relevant to your eventual goal (like UK criminal law and European Union law). In addition to qualify as a lawyer in the UK after the degree, you'd need at least a further year for studying and then a period of training with a firm or chambers.

American law is probably more relevant to your plans, but may not be worth the extra 3-4 yrs doing a US undergrad.

As a comparison, with overseas student fees, going to University at Oxford costs roughly the same as going to college at a middle of the road US university.
