Question:

Evening depression won't stop?

Every evening for as long as I can remember, I've been suffering from this "depression", if I can call it that. Whenever the sun sets down, it's like something left me and sadness has risen inside. I can't stand the evenings anymore, unless I'm doing something fun, it's a nightmare. I'm too young to go "out". I've tried everything but nothing works, this is simply an annoying thing. I don't know what will get my mind off of this. This has been going on for YEARS.

What should I do?

Movies/Music/Internet don't help much, because it will eventually become boring.

Anything, anyone?

I'm 14, btw.

  1. It would be helpful for you, I think, to have an appointment with a doctor, who can evaluate your situation and then direct you to effective counseling.  If that is not possible, try to do something 'fun' or different every evening.  Have a little treat, go for a walk...exercise helps depression...say to yourself...soon it will be morning and I will feel better.  Take a nice bath, put on some fresh pajamas or lounging clothes and settle down for a nice sleep.  Make sure your bedroom is tidy and pleasantly decorated...these will help.  A nice spray of room freshener is quite nice...try a lavender scent, it is very relaxing.  Good luck!

  2. I agree with many of the people that have already gave their opinions.

Especially about the seasonal depression, but to be on the safe side, sometimes it could be memories that you have suppressed and express themselves at night by being stressed. One thing I would strongly suggest is to first talk to one or both of your parents and see if they can think of a reason for these feelings. If that doesn't work, school is starting again soon, and I would suggest starting out with the school counselor and if they feel it's significant and can't give you a plan to follow, then maybe they can set up another counselor for you to see.  Once you do go to sleep do you have real nightmares. or do you sleep and get a good nights rest? Since it has been going on for some time I don't think waiting to out grow it is a healthy idea. The older you get the harder school becomes without having to worry about being stressed out in the evenings.

  3. Look up seasonal affective disorder. Some people believe that some depression can be linked to the absence of sunlight. I don't really know anything about it, or if I buy into it, but you can look into it and see if it might relate to your situation.

  4. Dont worry its just a phase.. I was like that when I was younger, you will eventually grow up and find yourself to busy with work, bills, chorus, etc. haha dude your so lucky, enjoy your life right now, i wish i could go back to my childhood years !

  5. Don't get scared by what im going to say.

I used to be just like this, when the sun set, I became depressed.

Well I eventually found out I was bipolar and that sunset feeling started happening day and night.

Now I love the night, because that is when I get to meet my buddies or my GF, etc.

So I say, go talk to a professional. They will help you deal with this depression and see if you have any underlying mental illness, or just pure boredom.
