I have a small pony that can go beginner novice. But towards the end of the course she drags her back legs over the jumps.(we are working on her fitness) She comes back with scratches on her legs so would eventing grease be fine until she stops doing this?(NO nothing is wrong with her!)

  1. I hate to say this, but they learn that if they don't follow through with good form, they get "hit"....it isn't an injury, but is sure is a reminder that they need to keep their form until they have all four on the other side...sometimes, lots of times, trainers purposely practice on higher jumps than they know are going to be at the next show, let their hoses "bump" and then the horse will hold their form when in the show ring...your question about the grease...I wouldn't use it, it's like a crutch, but it's up to you..

  2. I would suggest training a level higher than you are competing (so if you compete beg. novice, train novice) that way its not a shocker when you get to the event instead it'll be a piece of cake, school more x-country too. 3 day event horses take ALOT of condtioning, trying riding on different levels of terrain every so often. Eventing grease is exactly for what your describing many top level eventers use it on their horses. Its exactly for that purpose, to let your horses legs "slide" over the jump. It prevents a horse getting caught or scratched. You wouldn't hurt anything using it. Go ahead and use it!
