Eventing show?

Question

Im going to an Eventing show this weekend and i was wondering for the Dressage, do i still have to wear my coat even though it will be really hot? Or can i just wear like a white polo or something? This show is pretty lenient(sp?). And another thing, if i do have to wear my coat can i just wear my white polo under it or does it HAVE to be a rat catcher? Thanks!

For dressage, forget the polo shirt. That is often OK for show jumping, but not dressage.

Do you have a white, short sleeved show shirt?  If so, wear that with your jacket. If it is really hot, and there have not been any announcements about "waiving the jacket rule" ask the show secretary if the judge(s) will consider waiving the jacket rule. If you are lucky, they will. However, if the jacket rule is waived you may NOT show without a jacket if you have a sleeveless shirt on - only short sleeved and long-sleeved shirts may be worn without jackets.

Correct attire is your show jacket, with either a shirt and tie, or a shirt with a stock.

Personally, I wouldn't take off your jacket and I definately wouldn't wear a polo shirt.

According to the rule book, if its above 85F, jackets can be waived. If you do have to wear your coat, proper attire is a riding shirt with stock tie.

There is a new rule this year that says you can wear a neat shirt with collar for all three phases if they are contested on the same day.

Chapter 113 is Dress and Chapter 114 is saddlery.

If the show you are going to is a schooling show and not a recognised show, then you do not have to wear a jacket at all. For a schooling show, your white polo with some conservative breeches will be fine.

I would bring both outfits and see what everyone else is doing or what show management says. Dont wear the polo under the coat though. Good Luck!
