Question:

Eventually, will all current DVD movies be re-released in Blu-Ray HD?

I'm asking because I know that some people have hundreds of standard DVD's in their collections that they paid good money for. I know that a Blu-Ray player will upconvert the picture, but will the quality at least be almost as good as a true Blu-Ray DVD?

It just doesn't seem fair that some folks will have to double-dip for another DVD title that they already own just to have it in HD, you know?

  1. You have entered this merry-go-round a little late in the game.  We started with our films on Beta, then we had to switch to VHS, then DVD and now BluRay.

There are about 20 films I will always buy in upgraded format when available. The rest I just use what I have.

This merry-go-round will not end with BluRay. 3DTV is already a technical reality. I don't mean that goofey novelty stuff from the '50s. It's in a behind the scenes "fight over the format" stage but some companies, like Mitsubishi, are already making their TVs compatible, and Bluray disks are big enough to hold the information. Most major studios are on board, so it's just a matter of time. Talk about an emmersive viewing experience!

  2. eventually yeah.. the idea is to release again all mayor titles in Blu-ray. but no worry if you dont want to buy a title you already own like you say that's why the players are compatible with dvd movies and if connected via HDMI it will upconvert the image quality to match an HD resolution but remember isn't HD so i wont be the same as viewing a Blu-ray title.
