Valencia have welcomed back their star defensive midfielder, Ever Banega, after he spent a prolonged spell, spanning over eight months, on the sidelines.
Banega, an Argentine international, was the victim of an unfortunate accident, in which his car ran over his foot on a petrol station.
The midfielder’s services were sorely missed among Los Che’s ranks, as Valencia have put up a dismal start to the 2012-2013 campaign.
The Los Che supporters breathed a sigh of relief, as they saw their midfield maestro back in action against Athletic Bilbao and went on to make full 90-minute appearances for Valencia against Real Valladolid and Llagostera.
Banega emphasized that he is really happy at returning to action after the lengthy layoff and wants to keep his spot in the midfield by proving his value to the manager.
The Argentine international was rewarded with the captain’s armband by manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pellegrino in Valencia’s matches against Valladolid and Llagostera, and stated that it was a great honour for him to be graced with the captain’s armband.
The 24-year-old  has been loyal to his current employers and has been at the club since 2008, despite substantial interest from several top clubs of Europe.
“I’m very proud to have worn the armband as I’ve been with the club a long time and perhaps I am now one of the veterans in the team,” said Banega, who was pleased with the point taken from the Jose Zorrilla at the weekend.”
The Valencia midfielder insisted that he wanted to start each and every one of Valencia’s upcoming games, as he wants to shake the injury off him, by getting as many minutes under his belt as he can.
“On a personal level I’m happy and content. It’s true I found it very hard because I was out a long time, but it’s important I now get more minutes under my belt.”
Banega also refuted claims that the manager was feeling the heat for failing to turn the fortunes of the club, and believes that the manager has full backing from the squad.
