  1. No i haven't but some reasons might happen is because the horse is nervous or scared.Or while your behind it (which you shouldn't be) and accidentally touch it where it doesn't want to be touched,it might kick.

  2. my sister did once she got kicked

  3. i've been in the horse industry since i was seven, and amazingly i've only been bitten and kicked once (each lol). i was kicked by a old slow paint that was out at my place to keep my horse company until i got a new horse. he had the habit of grazing through the fence before we put the electic strand up on the inside. so once, he was sticking half of his body through the fence, so i walked up to him, waited until he had his shoulder and half of his neck back inside, and then kind of 'lunged' at him. i really just took a big step toward him and smacked my foot down haha. he turned and bucked and i just happened to be in the way. i had a huge bruise on my forearm but it really didnt hurt.

i got bitten by my TB mare recently. she was just being mouthy and rotten and didnt want to do something (i forget what) so she reached out and grabbed my sleeve and a bit of my arm. and boy, did she regret it! haha dont get me wrong, i dont abuse my animals and never will, but a pop on the muzzle made her think twice. ;)

  4. I have been bitten several times.  Never twice by the same horse(though I have one that constantly tries to lip) and never really bad only a nip here and there.

As far as kicks I have had several close calls but fast reflexes have saved my multiple times.

When I was a kid I had my knees kicked at twice.  Both times I was able to move out of the way.  Once only just far enough that I felt the hooves brush the sides of both knees (I had shifted them sideways by twisting them out of the way)  After I had gotten back there was dirt on the left side of both knees from where the hooves passed.  The kick had come from nowhere, all because the horse was out and did not want to go back in.  Since that time the closest kick came a few years ago when a horse went for my head.  I ducked.  The hoof just grazed my head.  It left a sore spot and gave me a headache for about three days.

I have my share of injuries but most of those were not from the horse purposefully trying to hurt me, which is what we are talking about here.

  5. yes !!! and when you have been around livestock as long as i have you come to expect it.

  6. lol hey.... well when i was like 6 i was on a 13hh horse walking around he was a welsh mountain pony. i was walking around and was about to go into a trot when he started to gallop... all i did was held on tight lol he jumped over a big jump and and my foot got caught in the stirrrup and i got dragged!!! i ended up falling off form the stirrup....

Another time i was on the same horse and i was walking and my little bro come running ut fo no where and yeled and the horse got frieghtened and kicked me off then kicked me in the head.....

My shetland used to bite me and i would have huge red marrks on my arm....

Another day my shetland pony cracked the sads and kicked at me and kicke dme in the head and i had a bi hoof print on my forhed....

Last year when i got my 16hh qh..... i went in the paddock to take offf his fly vale and he chased me down the paddock kickking out and bucking l i had tp dive underneath the fence....

i hope you enjoyed these stories!!

  7. Yes. Many times breaking horses. Kicked & bit! Mostly by youngsters.

  8. Worst I got kicked was probably 30+ years ago, we were on a trail ride and for some reason another rider's horse took an intense dislike to my little welsh pony.  He came backing like a freight train (we were stopped for a break and I wasn't even close to him) and fired with both back feet, caught me on the shin with one of them.  Hurt like crazy, and then the wound for some reason developed a hematoma/abscess a couple of weeks later that burst most impressively.  Not fun.

Worst bite was a b8tchy mare we had in for foaling.  She foaled, all was well, she seemed fine, but having been advised that she was evil, I was keeping a close eye on her, with hubby close by in case.  She gave no sign it was coming, just turned into a snake and struck out and nailed me in the face.  Top teeth caught just below my eye, bottom under my jaw.  Had she clamped down, she'dve taken my face off, but instead she just more or less slammed me with her open mouth.  Evil snotbag mare.  Thing was, get a halter on her, tie her up, and she quit fighting.  We could do whatever we wanted with the baby and it didn't matter at all to her.  Not a real fun gal to have around.  That was the ONLY time we foaled her out.

  9. Ive been bitten once and stepped on many many times.

For some reason I have a low tolerance for every sort of pain except being stepped on...I just dont feel the pain as much as others I guess.

A rider I know named Ally used to lease a welsh pony named Cookie.

Cookie used to be a little brat, snapping and biting anybody who got too into his personal bubble.

Ally is a pretty hot-tempered person too, and she warned Cookie that if he ever bit her, she would bite him back

He bit her, and she bit him on the ear!

The person who runs the stable noticed the bite, and she assumed it was from another horse and put some medicine on it

Dont worry, it didnt hurt Cookie, but he did learn his lesson.

From then on, he has never tried to snap or bite anybody when they got close to him!

  10. Several times. Mostly bruises, some scrapes.

Mostly because I wasn't fast enough getting out of the way.

  11. i think it's funny that i assumed you meant but a horse and your first answerer has been bitten and kicked by people.  well, i have been bitten by plenty of animals, mostly horses and cats, and kicked by a horse as well.  generally it's been my fault, as i believe is the case with most animal-human interaction.  never been bitten or kicked by a person i don't think.  unless it was for fun! ;)

as far as how bad was it - and i do think you mean horses - yeah, it hurt, but it didn't last long.  one of my cousins got kicked in the head by a horse once - he's a grown man now and seems fine :)

  12. I got bit badly on the arm when I was about 5 - my sister was babysitting and got in a lot of trouble for taking me to see those horses down the road. I still have the scars - right in the bend of my elbow.

I got a pretty bad bite on my side a couple of years ago - I was checking Fally's rug and he got me sneaky-like - that one drew blood.

I've been kicked by livery horses and at the riding school.

The worst bite I ever got was actually a dog bite - my husband's GSD caught me in the thigh when I dragged him off my dog (also GSD) I got 3 good puncture wounds and a bruise that lasted forever - it was weird, it actually ran down my leg.

  13. yeah plenty of times and mainly out of my stupidity. my tb gelding is so mouthy and will occasionally get a nip in if you're not careful. i got kicked hard by my sisters horse in the thigh and let me tell you, i got the most incredible bruise. man did that hurt. that was the worst one and was completely my fault. i get bit a lot mainly just little nips though so those don't really hurt. i also get stepped on a lot. my tb is really gangly and uncoordinated and isn't always aware of where his feet are. it comes with the job though. you get used to it but you can't ever let you're guard down.

  14. i was jumping my mare the other day and i went to turn one way and she went the other. i held on so tight that i pulled her on top of me, then she stood on me on the way up. ive got a broken hand(in 3places) cracked ribs, and the most incredible bruised bum and hip, with hoof marks over my lower back. 500kgs definately weighs a bit.

  15. I have been kicked once (knock on wood it never happens again) A pony kicked me in my thigh, left a hoof print bruise.  Looked kinda cool but hurt like heck.  I have had horses try to bite me, but I'm to quick for them (knock on wood)  For some strange reason they go for my right breast, thankfully no one got it.

  16. Both.

I was kicked by my mini because hes a stallion and didn't want me to get close to him because there was a mare in our front yard and he was protecting his area hand he kicked me.  It wasn't to bad  i just got a big bruise.

Another time i was kicked into a wall by my friends horse who she was walking during a show.  It was pretty bad i got the wind knocked out of me and i broke 2 ribs. I was ok though and still showed the next day :)

I was bitten a lot by my horse playing.  the worst time was when i was trying to get a bridle on and the horse decided to take a nip at me and he got my on the back of my neck.  He broke the skin and i was bleeding.  but that only happened once.  The rest were just playful nips and an occasionally nibble at my fingers for treats :)

But that's the dangers of working with beautiful animals.

  17. i got bitten by my little sister because i was annoying herrr

  18. I have gotten kicked more than bitten, but my worst bite was from a young 2 yr old stallion that decided to bite me on the top of my shoulder next to my neck and proceeded to pick me up and shake me like a rag doll. A lesson learned while I was a groom, never turn your back while cleaning a stall.  I have been kicked, attacked, the ones of you that have been privileged enough to hear my "peeing in a horses stall " story. The other ones were just common kicks, but the worst was working with babies as anyone who has, knows they can leap and kick in almost any position....lol     Got it right in the head.

  19. ...actually, it comes with my job! I have been in psychiatry since 1977...and I love it! kjl

  20. i've been both kicked & bitten, pretty much because well.. that's what happends when you have a mare who is a grump 24/7. :)

  21. haha wot a question . . . i am always coming home with injuries.

The other day i was picking my horses feet out and i dropped the hoof pick on the floor in front of her front foot, i bent down to get it and the litlle madam booted me with her knee into my nose . . .wot a nose bleed and a half lol :D

when i was 8 years old i was riding this 14.1 welsh section D amd we had been jumping for about 20 minutes or so we started to go over the jump for the last time when he stopped well skidded infront of it i went flying over the top and landed straigt on the wooden polls and brusied all my back and had to have physco on it. Me mum was sat in the car reading the paper and didnt even notice until my instructor went running out lol . . . (so caring)

  22. i been kicked idont know um lets see mosty beacuse im the boss of them or i was doing something to them that they dont like

  23. I've been kicked twice in my life. Once on my leg by a yearling. And once in the stomach. That one hurt  but didn't crack any ribs though.

I have never been bitten, thank goodness.

But I was working at a qh race farm and this lady was coming to look at a foal and she went into the pen and was petting the foal...the mare came up to her and grabbed her by the boob and shook her like a rag doll! Holy mackerel! I was only 13 and the site amazed me! Let's just say that the lady didn't buy the baby.

  24. Which time?  :::Laughing:::

Let's see the first time I was bitten was 1967 when I was leading my mare out of pasture with a bucket of grain also in my arms.  She wanted the grain and I wasn't going to give it to her until we were out of the pasture.

First time I got kicked, 1968 when I turned my back on my first yearling Quarter Horse when exiting his stall.

Last time I got bit...  1982 when my gelding was mad at me for leaving him in a pipestall (He was a box stall baby) after my mom died and I didn't see him for a month.

  25. I've been pretty lucky and only been kicked once but it was a good one.  It was a big draft horse, and I was going out in the corral to catch her.  I had to approach toward the back because there were a lot of horses out there and that's just the way she was positioned.  It was starting to storm and all of a sudden thunder struck quite loudly and she nailed me in the thigh.  I had a draft size horseshoe shaped bruise for weeks.  It hurt like h**l but was kind of funny to show off!  I could barely walk for 2 days too!

I can't recall being bitten but I'm sure it's happened because I vaguely remember having a bruise on my arm and being mad at a horse but I can't remember which horse so I guess it wasn't that bad...

  26. kicked in the thigh hard left a bruise

    and bitten yes

my brother told me to bite him back ( my horse 15 hh

quarter horse ) i pulled his head down by the halter and bit his ear he carried on so hard , but he never bit me again

  27. my instructor was cleaning my horses hooves and she went fully on the ground and the horse kicked her right in the eye and she was unconscious and was in teh hospital for three weeks, it  wasnt pretty.

  28. One of my mare's kicks when you do up her legs straps as she is very ticklish. my friend's stallion will bite you if you touch him when he is eating.

  29. I was going to answer this until I saw the comment to Roxy. Here is some info on Welsh ponies.

The Welsh Mountain Pony (Section A) may not exceed 12.2 hands (127 cm or 50 inches) in the US[2] or 12 hh or 121.9 cm in the United Kingdom.[

But you have an A,B,C and D class all different sizes.

All ponies/horses don't stay what we say they should in size.

My family breeds and shows TWH. The Tennessee Walker's size ranges from 14H to 17H, with the average being from 15H to 15.2H. But they have a 3 year old that is already 17.2 hands......not within range but he is still very much a TWH.
