Ever been close enough to a tornado to hear it?

Yes.  there was one about 1/2 mile from my home 6 years ago.  it gets very quiet then it sounds like a freight train

Yeah, and I would say it is an awesome experience.  Gets really quiet, then louder than a freight train, then silent again.  When I came out of the basement, the trees in my backyard were down, but no structural damage to my house.  Had a couple acres though, but I believe it went through the backyard.....

Yes! And it didn't sound like a train to me, it sounded like a giant bowling alley with strikes being made and rolling bowling balls! lol

We were in a house in Texas and one went over us and hit a nearby home... scary.
