How about a thunderstorm? I'm looking for fresh water answers, but salt water would be interesting to. Do the fish bite BETTER under those circumstances? Or worse? And what kind of bait did you use?

  1. Its been a long time since I've been fishing, but I recall there being more fish around when it rains.

  2. lots of times ,yes it seems like they do, i think it's because the water is stirred up and the is more food washing into the water,,  i used live bait ,crickets , nite crawlers ,meal worms that kind of stuff

  3. does a fish really care if its raining?  I think its more of a comfort situation for the fisherperson

  4. for trout and salmon it fishes better if it is cloudy or raining but only if the river is in flood and usually when the flood is subsiding. at the start it can actually get worse as the fish are waiting for more water to come down stream.

worms would be a good bait for fishing a river in flood.

  5. Yup. I played hooky from work, just me and the dog. Wish Id watched the weather before I went. We had 14 IN of rain in 24 hrs and I fished 8 hrs in it. The dog hated me for about a week. I used nightcrawlers and I caught a turtle.... Hope your luck is better than mine was.
