i'm the only one that knows something about jamaica, being a big bob marley fan, i suggested that we should go to kingston or montego bay, but i'm just not sure, what is a good place to go to in jamaica?

i don't want it to be like every other vacation i'v gone on where i'm surrounded by tourists with bad sunburn and i want to do some shopping

help, where should i go?

  1. I went to Jamaica and it was pretty. I said you need to go to Montego Bay because it has shops and it is very pretty.

  2. I was Born i Jamrock if you know what im talking about but if you really wont to shop i recommend you go to kingston the capital and for the beach's there are so many i cant really recommend any but you should check out "dons Riva Falls" its really good there, and oh just like anywhere else in the world there are bad people everywhere so stay safe too.

oh Bob Marley is good and what eva but right now the thing down there is dancehall= (a music genra) If your old enough you should get away from your parents to go check out one of the partys they have..but stay safe and take care..one love

  3. Go to Montego Bay.

Kingston is a BUSY place that's not as much fun for an entire family of tourists. Would you want to be regularly STUCK IN TRAFFIC on vacation???? Probably NOT!

Bob Marley's birthplace is in St. Ann. His studio and house are in Kingston. I would recommend staying in Montego Bay and making arrangements to visit Kingston for a day on a Tour.  If time is short you could fly into Kingston instead of sitting in a car/bus for 4 hours to and 4 hours from Kingston to Mobay. The scenery is fabulous by air AND by road. I've lived here for 30 years and a drive to Montego Bay is still refreshing to the eyes. I also enjoy the flight, especially if you are flying low over the coastline and seeing the waves and the corals. The choice of transportation should be according to your budget.  Air - $800. Charter bus - $350 (entire family).

Depending on the date of your vacation, you will also want to check out CRAZY parties in NEGRIL around august 1st.

Reggae Sumfest is in Montego Bay typically during the 2nd or 3rd week of July.

    visit http://www.reggaesumfest.com/

There is NO better way to experience Reggae in the summer. A pass to all the 4 nights is less that US$100.

Email me if you need info.

  4. I went to Jamaica in 2004. I took a cruise. I wish I would have taken the airplane and stayed at a hotel or resort. I didn't have much time to explore the island. It's very beautiful.

  5. www.treasurebeach.net

South coast of the island. Laid back and easy trip to Nine mile where Marley is laid to rest. Been there and it was awesome. Peter Tosh's tomb is about an hour away in Bluefield area if you like him too. Good luck. If you aren't interested in this area try Port Antonio, same kind of vibes.

  6. My parents are from there, so i've been there about 4 times. I enjoyed going to Ocho Rios and Negril. But, Negril is if you just want to see the beach, I would recommend that you go to Ocho Rios..If you want to do something other than just sitting at the beach you should go to Kingston or Ocho Rios..

  7. go! you'll thoroughly enjoy it!

  8. I would recommend going to Montego Bay if your main interest is Bob Marley.  Kingstion has a lot of reggae studio but the Bob Marley museum is in St. Ann which is pretty close to MoBay.

If you want to do non-touristy things,  I would suggest you skip Kingston and Montego Bay altogether and go to either St. Ann (where the museum) or to the eastern end of the island in Port Antonio, Portland or St. Thomas.  These areas are mostly untouched by tourism, very laid back and full of nature.

I recommend YS Falls (similar to Dunn's River, but much, much nicer and far less crowded).  For shopping, if you stay out of the cities, just go to a local store...you'll find that the prices are much cheaper too!  If you stay in Montego Bay, stay away from the Hip Strip (where everything costs double!)

I have a tour company and would be happy to take you and your family around should you be interested.  Our website is a work in progress, but please check it our www.coolrunningstoursja.com.  Thanks.

  9. I have been to Jamaica 3 times in the past 10 years and it was ALWAYS the best fun. we usually hung out at the resort and then we took day trips to Ochos RIos and Negril. Negril was the best 7 miles of pure white beach. the water is crystal clear and it AMAZING! we went to the markets on a day trip and negotiated with the owners of the shops and evrything is negotiable. never walk anywhere without you group and dont let the naitves take you anywhere private. i have never felt threatened and always was safe. the luminous lagoon is something to check out it is brakish fresh water that meats salt water and the result is an electric glow in the water.  going to the casinos and a going to margarittahville was the best. find out what your hotel has to offer and also look on applevacations.com have fun and remember that everything is ERIE! that means all good is Jamaican
