ever get a tattoo simply because you like the design?

not because it holds a meaning to you?

i just found a design that i really like. it has no meaning to me other than i like the butterflies and think it's a really great design. (i'm a butterfly junky)

i will probably get them done next year before summer starts.

  1. Tattoos are a waste of money and they permantly ruin you. Dude think about when your older and wrinkled ew or when your a mom or dad how ew does that sound. Removing them scarrs you and hurts a ton.

  2. You just contradicted yourself! Silly, of course you like the design! You are, and I quote, "(i'm a butterfly junky)"

So it does hold meaning for you, it is special, it is unique to you, it is personal!!...... because you are you. Your liking the design, or image, or picture, or idea, is because of who you are, and is deeply personal.

I have some very complex tattoos loaded with personal meanings that I researched and gave an incredible amount of thought and consideration to before deciding, and then, I had them tweaked this way and that afterwards to get them 'just right'.

But then I got a flower on my calf, - I let my artist decide what it was, and the design and the color! - It may have seemed like a whim, but it wasn't. I have always loved flowers. After much work done, I completely trusted my artist to do quality work, and I am an artist, and knew that giving him free expression would produce a beautiful piece for me.

So, even thought it may look one way to others, my decisions were deeply ingrained in the meaning of my life.

If you truly love an image, it is tattooed on your body, ... how much more personal can you get?

Someone who isn't a certified 'butterfly junky' probably would have past that beautiful image by without a thought.

  3. getting a tattoo dorsnt necessarily have to have a specific meaning to you, if you like it, go ahead! :D

  4. Every tattoo is ultimately going to hold some meaning, whether or not it is "symbolic" (which I think, 9 times out of 10, is trumped up solely because a person feels they need to justify a tattoo - you don't!).

My example is that I have a Frank Lloyd Wright stained-glass window tattooed on my rump. It doesn't symbolize anything (although I've gotten a few jokes about it being the "window into my soul". Via my butt, apparently), but I think it's aesthetically pleasing, and I'm very into FLW. It's art, and that's all it is, but it ties back to my own interests.

So get something because you want it. It doesn't have to "mean" anything, but your choice ultimately reflects your interests.

  5. i haven't but there's definitely nothing wrong with that

  6. Out of all 11 of my tattoos only one was on a whim and funnily enough it's my favourite! I had the Illuminati Ambigram on my upper back, between my shoulder blades.

  7. i havent... yet. I probably will. I love tattoos. the 2 i have now are meaningful but ill probably end up getting something just cause I like it sooner or later.

  8. Every tattoo I currently have has meaning, but I have one in mind right now that it simply a design I like.  I plan on getting it someday.

  9. yup!
