Ever had a herniated disc?

I have a herniated disc right now and it is pressing on my sciatic nerve. I've heard it can take up to 6 weeks to go away. I am still having pain after week four. Has anyone else experienced pain after this much time and still been able to heal after 6 weeks?

  1. I totally agree w/savgrr...

It's best to try anything non-invasive first, such as a chiropractor. They can work wonders. I had a cheerleading injury over ten years ago and went to one and they were wonderful. No problems now!

My husband had a herniated disc and dealt w/it for about six months. He is a contractor so his work is very demanding...his legs finally gave out on him a few times (very scary) and he ultimately saw a neurosurgeon who performed surgery. The outcome has been great...he is doing well now...

    Good luck!

  2. Honestly, sometimes the pain never goes away. I work in a Chiropractic clinic, and we treat people who have had herniated discs for half their lives. If you get it treated by a GOOD Chiropractor, the pain levels can go down. But if you let time try to heal it, it may end up just getting worse.

The funny thing about your sciatic nerve, is that it goes all the way down your leg. If you leave it alone, the weight pressing on your nerve can actually start sharp pains down your leg and become even more unbearable. I see it happen a lot, and people don't realize that it can be helped.

There are a lot of people that don't believe in Chiropractic, but I would give it a shot. I used to be hesitant about it, but I see 300 pound men come into the office crying from sciatic pain...barely able to walk. A few weeks after treatment they are walking normal and have very low pain levels.

Hope that helps! Good luck. :)
