could it be possible that all these things are a huge coincidence?

please tell me your thoughts... I'm worried!

  1. Silly little girl

  2. The world will NOT end

It is just a myth which mysteriously propagates (mostly because of the History Channel and YouTube and websites like the one you listed.)

The interpretation of the Mayan calendar thing is just plain wrong – it’s just the end of a cycle. And since calendars are based on astronomical motions of one kind or another, they are inherently cyclic. Our western calendar ends on December 31st every year!

There are many videos on YouTube that purport to have evidence are disingenuous to say the least. They put together pictures of other objects (e.g. Jupiter, comets even a dust shell around a distant red giant star) and try to scare people. There is no validity to their claims. They present NO EVIDENCE at all.

As for the predicted catastrophes – the most popular one seems to be the Pole Shift!

The sun will have a pole reversal that year – it has one every 11 years – it is not a problem.

The earth’s magnetic field is less predictable –

but is still nothing to worry about: we know that the magnetic field does not collapse in the process of reversing polarity- if it did, there would be major extinctions that correlate with the geologic record for pole reversals - there is no correlation.

Now let’s tackle the “Galactic Alignment”

Here’s a nice site that explains what it means, and explains that is does not happen on December 21st 2012:  http://alignment2012.com/whatisGA.htm

Also see the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_Al...

which tells you that the precise alignment of the solstice with the Galactic equator was in 1998. It did not cause problems. The Galactic Equator is purely a human construct – not a physical thing. And we do not get any closer to the black hole in the center, which remains approximately 8000 parsecs (26,000 light years) away.

It's all a hoax - so just relax

  3. YES, We all will eventually die.

Maybe by 21-12-2012, maybe before, maybe after. :-D

Hopefully my time is long after that day. :-DD

  4. There have been more dates for the end of the world than I have had hot dinners. They have all been spectactularly wrong.

  5. I think its something to do with nibiru, nibiru is going to  pass jupiter or something like that and the gravity is going to be so intense that it will shift our planet by some percentage and will cause mega problems, its meant to start on 21st december 2012 but it will be at its worst by 13th feb 2013, i don't want to sound like a nutter lol just saying what i heard, but people say its not going to happen, but you never know, nobody can possibly predict what is going to happen

  6. YES course we will

If we do i'll eat my hat but then again i wont be able to :p

  7. we wont die

    neither will the planet

its made up, its a hoax just like the moon landing.

    dont worry:)

  8. I need to get shagging then lol

  9. How could I have *not* heard about it?! I see hundreds of these questions! You get the same answer as everyone else: OF COURSE NOT!!!

planets aligning: THERE'S NO PLANETARY ALIGNMENT PLANNED! And even if there was, it doesn't affect Earth AT ALL!

Jupiter and Saturn being opposite: I don't even know if they *are* going to be opposite Earth. but if they are, they're WAY too far away to affect Earth.

As for the sun being in direct alignment, supposedly, with the center of the galaxy, that makes no difference at all. Gravity doesn't travel that far. Its stupid.

ALL OF THIS IS STUPID! How many times do I have to tell people, IT IS A LOAD OF c**p!

Don't be worried and don't fall victim to this junk. There has been a doomsday date set every single year since 1965... sometimes more than one day. Remember y2k? Remember 6-6-06? 2012 is no different.

joining the milky way: Hat do break it to you, but we are already part of the milky way! The galaxy we are in is called the "Milky Way". No big news there...

  10. Have you just now heard about this?  Wow.

I guess the charlatans are right about still announcing it, as some people have not yet been fooled by the hoax.

    ---

There is no "special" planet alignment in 2012.

In fact, 2012 is actually a poor year for planet alignments.

There is a real alignment: the position of Winter Solstice (which moves with precession) lines up with the Galactic equator.  The Mayans knew that, just as the Greek and Chinese astronomers did.  That is why they timed their calendar to enter a new Long Count at that time (the Winter Solstice was important for them as the passage of the Sun at that point marked the New Year for them).

Jupiter and Saturn are often on "opposite sides of Earth".

We are not "joining" the Milky Way.  We have been within the Milky Way Galaxy for 4,500 million years (four and a half billion).

These "predictions" have all been invented to scare people into buying a book (just as full of lies) that some charlatans have put together to help fools survive the end of the world.

The same people were selling the same book (with many of the same predictions) in 2003.  They did change a few things (like the date) to protect the guilty.

    ---

The Mayan calendar does NOT come to an end.  It comes to the end of a Long Count and begins a new one.

Just like when our calendar "ran out of numbers" on December 31, 1999, and all our computers were supposed to explode. Then, almost magically, someone made a calendar with the number "2000" on it and we were all saved...  How did they guess that 1999 was not the end of all numbers?

Mayan astronomers (who used this Long Count calendar) left writings describing astronomical events that will take place after the year we call 2012.

Obviously, they expected neither the world nor their calendar to end.  (and obviously, they already knew the rule to write dates in the new Long Count).

  11. its a load of c**p. .. the planets are not aligning in 2012,

  12. No.  This is all a bunch of lies.  Your question has been asked in one form or another on Y!A more than 12,000 times.  We have heard it all before and all of it is lies or distortions of ordinary astronomical facts by people who seek to make money out of scaring others.  That includes the Fox network.  Your cited web site is just another fraudulent one.

  13. I'm not amazed at your link about 2012. It was one of the most stupid things I've seen. I still don't believe the world will end in 2012. You'll be fine. GOSH!!

  14. This all came from the Maya and the fact that their very accurate calendar ends on that date... The rest is wild speculation...

  15. The Mayan calendar ends on this date as suggested by Brett B but there is a school of thought that this does not predict the end of the world, merely the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.

Anyhow, if that was their purpose, I think they were a little inaccurate since the end of the world for the Maya was around 900ad.

Many people have predicted the end of the world. None have been right yet. One day, somebody will accurately predict the end of the world- if they haven’t already. But I suspect this will be more coincidence than prophecy. And let’s face it. We won’t be around to say ‘oohh, so you were right, then!!’ unless we’ve conquered deep space travel and landed on another inhabitable planet. In which case I doubt we’ll be interested in who got it right!

  16. Nope, never heard of it ever

    http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_r...

Have you ever heard of pseudoscience? No? Have you ever heard not to believe everything you read? No? Then I guess you're screwed.

  17. god i hope so, if im not dead by then god forbid.

  18. Now that you told me, I kinda scared that I will die! SCARY!!!!

  19. if you keep extending the deadline for this question, i'll let you know by 22nd december 2012

  20. Yes, we're all going to die. That's why it's not on the news, or in the papers. This news is so stupendously important that it's only available on insignificant little websites.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

The alignments happen all the time, and have occurred many times throughout history. And yet, here we are.

  21. Since none of any of that trash is true, I won't lose any sleep over it.

Planets aligning - they don't "align" in a straight line, since they are all angled a little to the ecliptic.  But there have been numerous times when many if not all the planets happen to "line up" on the same side of the sun - nothing happened then, nothing will happen in 2012 (the "alignment" in 2012 will only involve 4 planets, not all of them).

Jupiter and Saturn on opposite sides of the Earth - happens at least every few years as the 2 orbit the sun (Jupiter takes 12 years, Saturn takes 29, so they are on opposite sides of us at least every 12 years or so).

Us joining the Milky Way - we have been part of the Milky Way since the solar system formed 4.5 billion years ago - nothing new about that.

All the different predictions - hogwash.  None have any scientific basis - there have been predictions of all kinds of things for thousands of years.  And for each prediction, nothing happened.

  22. Never heard of it ... unless you count the other 200 questions about this (in August) that were asked by people that were just as incapable ot typing "2012" into the search field above.

  23. if your interested in this stuff there is a book called the mystery of the thirteen crystal skulls by ceri louise.... i cant remember the authors names there was two of them but this book is unbelieveable..... opened my eyes up
